Max Payne: Jukebox Version 1.0 - January 13, 2002

Description:
=----------=
This is the world's first music and noise selector for Max Payne!
Now you can play your favorite MP tracks during game and cutscenes by simply
choosing them in menu at any time. Add your own music tracks quickly and easy
without coding anything. Play the included set of infinite action loops which
will make Max Payne even more fun to play.

Features:
=-------=
- All original Max Payne music and noise selectable from Jukebox submenus.
- Custom submenu for your own music tracks. Read tutorial below on how to
implement custom music packs (CMP template included in this zip).
- Daedalus Action Loops: a pack of perfectly looped action songs made from
the Matrix soundtrack, James Bond and Die Hard Trilogy 2 shooter!
- New Level Selector
- Music and noise during bullet time. No silence anymore!
- Extreme slo-mo, bloody flash and faster heartbeat for more adrenaline.
- 90 secs bullet time, 1 min regeneration time. Unlimited BT is lame imo.
- More decals for more blood and destruction.
- Sniper zoom-in speed is twice that fast now.
- No video at startup. Mod launches immediately.

Installation:
=-----------=
1. Copy the Jukebox_10.mpm in your main MP folder, usually "C:\Games\Max Payne".
2. Launch Max Payne and select "Jukebox_10" from the "Choose Customized Games"
   drop-down box.

Usage:
=----=
1. Start a new game or select a level to load.
2. Press ESC during game and select a track from the Jukebox menus.

That's it! The game will resume and the desired track will play. If you like
to switch the current track then simply press ESC again and choose another
track from the menus. You can also run a silent track if the music or noise
disturbs you. ;)

NOTES:
As you know the original Max levels include cutscenes and events which switch
music and noise tracks automatically during game like programmed in the level
scripts by Remedy's designers. Therefore you shouldn't be surprised when a
selected track suddenly stops playing and other track starts during game.
This is not a bug or s.th. Just press ESC and select your desired track from
the menu again to interrupt the track which was executed via level script.
Ofcourse you can let the tracks play like they come and go. It is YOUR free
choice when and where you like to listen to a track.

When you run a new Max Payne session and the Jukebox selection items in the
submenus aren't grayed out at mod startup then it means that there is an
autosaved game from a last session. When you select a track in this case then
your autosaved game will be loaded instead, but the selected track won't be
played anyway since the tracks executed by the level scripts have priority
over your selections. So I recommend to use the Jukebox as described above.

Tutorial on how to create a custom music pack (CMP):
=--------------------------------------------------=
First off, the so-called CMP's work like kind of "patches" which replace some
customizable Jukebox scripts (edited by you) and add new music files (your wavs)
to the Jukebox MPM. You should treat a CMP in the same way like a mod where you
edit scripts and add new stuff to Max Payne. No less and no more.

The priority order of data loaded by Max engine is
1. "data" subfolder (your CMP in this case),
2. MPM file (Jukebox mod) and
3. RAS files (original MP data).

Do not pack your CMP with RASmaker tool or something, because then it won't work
since you can't run two MPM's at the same time!

Ok, here we go:
1. Copy the CMP template ("data" folder and its contents which should be included
with this zip) into your main MP folder, usually "C:\Games\Max Payne".
2. Follow the instructions there in "mymusic.txt" and "mymenu.txt".
3. Launch Max Payne and select "Jukebox_10" from the "Choose Customized Games"
   drop-down box.

You can now select your own tracks in the Jukebox custom menu and play them!

Author's Notes:
=-------------=
Yeah, here comes the first official version 1.0 finally! It all started with a
unique mod idea about a month after Max Payne was released by 3DR and Remedy:
the Jukebox v0.2 was done! Damn, I was proud. People were hyped about level
selector mods and custom levels with music in the background - still with
silence during bullet time - and I was the only person to date with a music
selector for all the original and user-made Max levels. And at the top of the
cream I could play my own pumping tracks. Well, now YOU have this badass in
your hands, baby. Let's rock! :)

Implementing Jukebox to other mods:
=---------------------------------=
You would like to use Jukebox in your mod? No problem, but before you do so you
contact me first and ask for permission. Don't forget to mention me in your
credits. Unpack the "Jukebox_10.mpm" and browse through all the folders and
scripts. If you're experienced enough in modding then it shouldn't be a problem
for you to make Jukebox scripts work with other mods.
