Features

Besides jails, JB:PoW has some features not found in regular Quake3. These are:

Customized HUD

The HUD in JB:PoW is similar to the CTF hud, but has been customized to indicate how many players on each team are in jail.

Backpacks

Sarge's backpack When you frag an opponent, they will drop a backpack containing their weapons. You can pick up the backpack and its contents by running over it. (The use of backpacks is configurable on the server.)

Turrets

Turret To use a turret, just move onto it. The weapon you are currently using will be put away, and you will have control of the turret. To stop using the turret, just step off of it.

Security Cameras

Camera Security cameras can be used to keep an eye on remote areas. To use a security camera, first you need to find the monitor that controls the camera...
Monitor When you are in front of a usable monitor, "Cam" will appear in the lower left corner of your screen. Press the key that you have bound to "cam" and your screen will change to the camera's viewpoint. Some cameras also have small turrets attached to them. To stop using the camera, press the "cam" key again.

Lightning Gun Discharge

Water and electricity do not mix. Using the lightning gun underwater will cause damage to yourself and anyone else in the water close to you, like in the original Quake. (This can be disabled on the server.)

Custom Railgun Trails and Icons

You can replace the standard Quake3 railgun trail and in-game icons with better looking graphics. These options are configurable from the "Game Options" menu.

Instagib Mode

For a change of pace, you can play a JB:PoW map in instagib mode. All players spawn with just a guantlet and a railgun. Any hit with a railgun slug or the gauntlet is an instant frag. To make things even more crazy, the server can also enable gauntlet jumping, which is similar to rocket jumping. To gauntlet jump, activate your gauntlet, point it at the ground, and duck.

Powerful Map Selection and Voting

JB:PoW has powerful map selection features that gives the server administrator a lot of control over the maps that are being played. The map rotation can include standard JB:PoW games, JB:PoW in instagib mode, and even CTF or team deathmatch games. You can also specify config files or commands to run before starting any map. See Map Rotation on the Running a Server page.

At the end of the match, you may be given the opportunity to vote on the next map to be played, if the server has map voting enabled.

Clan (Competition) Mode

JB:PoW contains features that make running a competition (clan) game much smoother. You can designate someone to be the referee of the match, and each team can also have a designated captain. For more information, see the Clan Mode page.

Bot Support

Lousy intenet connection? No friends? You can practice JB:PoW against computer-controlled opponents (bots) without going online, or you can use bots to even out the teams.
