Instructions for modification - (based for Windows 95/98 only)

1) Using Winzip (or similar) extract the yourskin.pk3 file in your quake3/baseq3 directory -
   i.e. C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3\

2) Find the newly placed yourskin.pk3 and attempt to open it. By default Windows does not
know what to use and so brings up the 'Open With ...' dialog box.

3) Scroll down the programs and find the Winzip program you use. !IMPORTANT! Make sure the
'Always use this program' check box is NOT ticked.

4) The Program loads yourskin.pk3 and 6 files should be shown (or one folder. Keep opening
the folders until you find the files. DO NOT EXTRACT ANYTHING

5) Firstly open the file named icon_name.tga. This file is the picture seen of the character when loading games
or in the Model Selection Area. This will load using your default Paint Program associated
with .tga files. Using your paint program aquire a picture of yourself (through scanning/digital
camera etc.). Now resize the picture to around 55x60 pixels - make sure that you don't distort the face!
Now (if possible) use a point to point selection tool or if that is not available then just select your face
by dragging a rectangle over it. YOU ONLY NEED YOUR FACE - FROM THE CHIN TO MIDDLE FOREHEAD -no ears or hair!

6) Once your face is selected copy and paste it into the h_name.tga file and place it in the
outlined bit. Anything utside the outline will not be shown, but don't worry too much. Finish it off by 'touching up'
areas - the pose is supposed to be of the character (and his neck and shirt) look towards you (see Bitterman).

7) When your happy save icon_name.tga and close it. Going back to Winzip again, open up h_name.tga and repeat the process
of 'putting your head on'. This file is the characters head as it appears in game.

8) Once happy save the file and go back to Winzip. The only .tga file left is name.tga . This
file contains the 'skin' for the body (torso - legs -arms etc). You needn't do anythingwith this unless
you want to, so for the mean time leave it.

9) That's it - anythng past this is optional - load up Q3A and go and select the model.

!!! Please rememberthat the images must remain as .tga files and the .pk3 file must remain in your
baseq3 folder in order to work. The .pk3 file must not be extracted in their - and the
folder structure must reamin absolutly unchanged !!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extra 1 - to get your name displayed as the models name, simply rename all the image files
replacing 'name' with your name. !!! THE NAME MUST BE IN LOWER CASE !!!
The image MUST remain a .tga file. and the 'h_' or 'icon_' part of the title MUST be kept.
Now simply rename the '.skin' files present in the directory, again replacing 'name' with your name,
the 'lower' and other parts must remain their in the same porsition (i.e. lower_ben.skin)
Finally open up each individual '.skin' file and change the very end file, to the name you replaced it
with - agin in lower case. LEAVE THE FOLDERS AS THEY ARE!. Once you've done this your done.
