mIRC Quake3 Add-on
2000 Digit4l of -=Digital Oxygen=-

-=Disclaimer=-

The usual disclaimers you read on all other add-ons/mods/software are applied
here. I cannot be held responsible for something that this script does if
used improperly. As designed, this script works properly and does nothing
to harm your current mIRC installation in any way, shape or form. Remember,
THIS IS A BETA ADD-ON. I cannot guarantee that this add-on will work without
bugs, but I do wish anyone finding a bug will e-mail me and let me know.

-=Install Tips=-

Tips? Well, there is no need for many tips in this section, you simply unzip
ALL of the files located inside the zip file to whatever directory your mirc.exe
resides in, open mIRC, and type

/load -rs q3launch.mrc

The rest is done via the GUI installer. If setup requires more information from
you than it can currently detect, you will be prompted. Please realize you MUST
have Quake3 installed, and a mIRC version of 5.6 or better. Setup will not continue
if your mIRC version is below 5.6.

Setup will automatically try to detect where on your c:\ drive Quake3 is installed.
If it cannot find Quake3 on c:\, it will prompt you to see if you would like to specify
where on your computer Quake3 resides. Total time for setup depends on 2 things:
1. If Quake3 is installed on your c:\ drive, and
2. How large and how full your c:\ drive is.

On average, setup takes roughly 45 seconds on my machine, with Quake3 installed on f:\
and my c:\ drive a total of 2GB in size (strictly for my OS).

-=About This Add-on=-

 Where do I start?
OK, first of all, this add-on is totally GUI based, and allows for a number of options
for its users. It can store up to 20 of your fav Quake3 servers, allows you to edit/delete
currently stored servers, detects a number of things I personally never thought mIRC
could do, allows you to use one of 4 mIRC commands to launch Quake3 and connect to a server,
and many more nifty little things. Once installed, this add-on will automatically present you
with the GUI enhanced add-on windows so you can see what it has to offer.

-=Known Bugs/Issues=-

Only one bug as of this release. It seems as though when you first try to add your own server
you must do it twice. I think this is due to the script coming default with one server added
and it not properly computing the correct numbers in the variables. This will hopefully be
fixed in a later release.

One issue that may be aroused with this add-on is the fact that IT WILL DETECT YOUR Q3 CDKEY!!
Please rest assured that even though it will (only if enabled) detect your cdkey, it WILL NOT
send this information ANYWHERE. There is NO command in this script to send information anywhere,
be it through mIRC or e-mail, other than a small away feature activated when you connect to one
of the pre-determined fav servers. You can disable this feature easily by clicking a button in
the GUI, and as stated, it WILL NOT send this info anywhere! Actually, it will record the info
for no longer than 2 seconds, that's right, 2 seconds. Once the two seconds have expired, it
will remove the variables that store the cdkey automatically. I personally would not like to
have my cdkey distributed anywhere, so I will not subject any other user to this either.

-=Planned Additions=-

 More Games!
Even though Quake3 is at this time my fav FPS, I will hopefully be able in the near future
to add support for other games, such as Unreal Tourney, and others, depending on demand.

 GameSpy Support
Congrats to Peter Reinhold for his release of the GameSpy -> mIrc Script. His current
add-on can be found at http://www.reinhold.dk/gsm. The latest version (as of this writing),
is v1.1.
Although he managed to release his add-on before my GameSpy add-on was officially released, I did
create my own little GameSpy add-on way back in September. It was never released to the general
public, but it was submitted to the GameSpy Tech Support dept. in hopes of being released in GameSpy,
but I guess Zob didn't think it was sufficient. If anyone would like to question the fact that
I did have a GameSpy add-on created, let me know, I'll forward you the e-mail I sent off to Zob.
Anyway, this Quake3 add-on WILL have similar support for GameSpy as Peter's current add-on, once
I drop him a line to make sure he knows that mine is similar, but not a ripoff of his ideas.

 More Definitive Help File
I will write a small help file for this script in the future, to allow users not too sure of how
this script works to understand it a little better.

-=History=-

Version 0.9.7 - January 19, 2000
Fixed a small annoying little bug that wouldn't allow a user with spaces in the path to the Quake3
directory launch a game. This is due to the fact that upon writing, there were no spaces in my own
path so it never crossed my mind. This was written in WindowsNT, so if 9x users still have a problem,
please report it to me using the Bug Report form on the website. Propz to Thelrax for finding this.

Version 0.9.6 - January 16, 2000
First user submitted bug found by Pappy-R from PlanetQuake (http://www.planetquake.com), and a fix
was released immediately. It seems that mIRC 5.6 had some issues with the dialog boxes that were
fixed in 5.61, and seeing as this script was written in 5.61, went undetected by myself and my testers.
The only fix at the present time for this is to limit the install to users running the latest mIRC (5.61),
so if you wish to run this script, be sure you are running mIRC 5.61 or better. If you have mIRC 5.6, you
can simply download and install mIRC 5.61, copy the mirc32.exe, and overwrite your current mirc32.exe
with it, OR, you can download the mIRC 5.61 executable and overwrite your current mIRC32.exe with it.
Download the executable only at - http://unknownmag.hypermart.net/mirc5.61exec.zip.

Version 0.9.5 - January 16, 2000
First public release. Please submit any bugs found to me at oldirty@vqf.com.

Version 0.8.4 - January 13, 2000
First release submitted for beta testing. All bugs found were fixed.

Pre 0.8.4
All releases prior to 0.8.4 were not released, and were used to finalize the way
I wanted this add-on to be.

-=Other Information=-

The webpage for this add-on is located at http://q3launch.nailed.org, but I am currently looking for free
webhosting elsewhere and any offers should be sent to oldirty@vqf.com (hint hint all you major Quake siteops,
most gamers are also IRC users :P). Keep in mind mIRC scripting is not all I can do.

A note to Peter, if you downloaded and are reading this file. If you're interested in contacting me
to possibly develop future versions of this add-on with me (to include your current script), or maybe
developing other add-ons, contact me. This may include allowing me to use ideas from your script in here,
and this offer could also apply to any other mIRC scripters interested in developing game-related
scripts for the gaming community.

 About Me?
To start, there's not much to tell. I'm an avid gamer, only new to the pc gaming scene, and this is one
of the ways I have chosen to contribute to the community. I started dabbing in mIRC scripting one month
after I first learned HOW to visit a website back in September '97. Back then I was a newbie who knew nothing.
Now I can proudly say I can script in mIRC, TCL, and Perl, among others. I can also do web design, and have
dabbed in various programming languages (to learn the basic needed to edit programs to do/say what I wanted).
In just over 2 years, I have accomplished more than I could have ever imagined, computers rule :P
You can find me on DALnet in #digitaloxygen, or e-mail me at oldirty@vqf.com. My Quake3 nick is -=Digit4l=-.

I hope people enjoy this add-on as much as I enjoyed making it :)
