Welcome to Soldier Of Fortune section!
Grazie alle sue notevoli innovazioni, Soldier Of Fortune è
Thanks to its noticeable innovations, Soldier Of
Fortune is surely a cool game, in spite of the age of the
graphical engine.
Even if it can't reach the same terrific numbers of id's
shooters, there is a bot, it works fine, and we're here to
support it!
So, here there's the dedicated Bot Runner version, that I decided
to call Bot Raiser.
Regarding player skins and maps, you can start your research from
Fileplanet,
Fileleech
or PlanetSoldier.
Even if you can't wait, please read at least the Quick Start section.
Being Bot Raiser fully
based on the code of Bot Runner, I don't think another manual is
necessary.
So below you can find what's new respect the Bot Runner manual (that's included into raiserXXe.zip).
Mainly different are, of course, supported bots , that are:
Hidebot: every mode (DM, Assassin, Arsenal, Realistic, Team DM, CTF, Control, Conquer the Bunker), with or without waypoints
At the moment, there's no supported mod that can spawn bots.
Obviously, if you know any other, please email me!
About starting Bot Raiser,
the instructions are the same; the program will ask you to update
skins' file (/user/ghoul/pmodels) and the maps' one (*map.lst).
Although Bot Raiser has been fully tested, precedent experiences
with Bot Runner force me to recommend you to make a backup copy
of this files!
Moreover, every skin takes as its name the directory one; because
of the lack of the model concept in Soldier Of Fortune, model and
skin can be considered as synonims.
Obviously, every directory changed; here's the list:
In Chapter... |
the phrase... |
becomes... |
| 1-7 | crbot | hidebot |
| 1-7 | /quake2/ | /sof/ |
| 2-7 | baseq2/players | user/ghoul/pmodels |
| 2-7 | baseq2/maps | base/maps |
| 4-7 | /runner | /raiser |
| 6 | "Supermalefemalecyborg" | "??????" |
Obviously chapter 7 is completely unuseful.
Let's spend some words about config files: into /raiser folder you find some files named *flg.cfg. Everyone contains settings for corresponding game mode, with this convention: d=DM (deathmatch), c=CTF (capture the flag), b=CTB (conquer the bunker), r=RL (realistic), L=CON (control). Moreover, there's a file tflg.cfg, for team deathmatch. Same way, you find the lists of hidebot supported maps (i.e. with waypoints), named *map.lst. Moreover, into base/maplists, there are complete map lists (i.e. also with maps that do not have waypoints), in the form *map_now.lst, so you can play without bots starting a game from SoF menu.
When you'll launch set death.vbs, it will ask you which type are installed maps; if you haven't any addon map, answer "d"; in other cases you must remove them, then reinstall type by type (first all dm, then all ctf, and so on), rexecuting set death every time.
I remember you that maps must be installed into one of the following folder: base/maps, base/maps/dm, user/maps, user/maps/dm, or they won't be recognized. Skins are to be installed into user/ghoul/pmodels.
Moreover, /raiser folder contains file raiser.bpf, that has into it bot chat phrases.
Finally, some specific notes:
Assassin, Arsenal: for these game modes, settings and maps files are the same of deathmatch
Team DM, CTB: these game modes are not completely supported by Hidebot; so, only the 36 original SoF skins can be used; moreover, your bot teammates doesn't recognize you, and fire at you. So the use of these modes, although perfectly running, is not suggested
waypoints: almost only original maps own waypoints (files that indicate to bots the way to follow through levels), so i've added the possibility to play hidebot without them; instructions are the same, but I strongly suggest NOT to use this option with CTF, Control and CTB (or the bots will act stupidly, not recognizing flags)
If you want to start a dedicated server, edit .vbs files, search wsh.run lines and add +set dedicated 1 (obviously, I think).
What's new in version 1.0
brand new system to choose also bot names; see here for more info
same features as Bot Runner
supports Hidebot, with and without waypoints
supports every game mode
No new version of Bot Raiser is in program.
I prefer to leave this section here, so you don't need to read the whole manual to simply play. Notice: Gold patch and Hidebot 1.1 are NEEDED! Bot Raiser does NOT support gold patch integrated bot, because hidebot is the updated version. I remember you that maps must be installed into one of the following folder: base/maps, base/maps/dm, user/maps, user/maps/dm, or they won't be recognized. Skins are to be installed into user/ghoul/pmodels.
Bot Raiser can start Soldier Of Fortune directly
with all options; however, if you chose not to bind a key to exec
bot.cfg, you'll have to type it manually into the console every
time the level changes to reconnect bots not capable to do it.
So, I strongly suggest you let Bot Raiser set this!
Follow these steps:
you have to do this only once, execpt if you install new maps or skins (in this case run set deah.vbs again)
You can answer to the first question with a number (and you'll
play deathmatch), or with two number separated by commas(and
you'll play team DM), or with a name of a previously saved
configuration.
Game modes are: deathmatch, capture the flag, conquer the bunker,
realistic, control, assassin, arsenal.
In case of 2 team game, Bot Raiser will set up as many bots as
the sum of the two teams; once in the game, Soldier Of Fortune
will autoassign bots to the two teams.
In case of Team DM or CTB, the maximum is 6 teams.
Remember that the method to create a predefined set of bots requires a file the file in the format: name/skin,name2/skin2; where name is what you'll see in the score tab and skin is the folder name (use ; to separate teams). This file must have a .bot extension, and be placed into /raiser folder.
From version 1.0, I've implemented a
method to manage bot names; into /raiser/botnames.cfg you can
find every available name, with this syntax:
skinname(name1,name2,etc).
To add some names, you've only to search the skin you want or add
it, if it not exists; after ( place all the names, spacing them
with commas; you can use every character except for "; you
must close the parenthesys at the end, but the last comma is not
needed.
Every time Bot Raiser assigns a skin, it chooses a casual name
from the ones available in the file; if the file doesn't exists,
or there's no available name, skin's name will be used (as in old
versions).
If you want, you can add generic settings using ### as a skin
name; these settings will be used with every skin not explicitly
defined in the file.
Regarding files created with the new method, there's no change, cause
bot names were alreeady supported
For those who don't like to edit files manually, i've added a
little utility to automatically create the file; start
botnames.vbs (into /raiser folder) and it will add (if the file
exists, it won't be overwritten) every skin not already present.
Et voilà. Here's everything you need to start a good
massacre.
To use my front-end, you need only the file raiserXXe.zip (into
it you'll find also the manual in HTML format).
Obviously (there's no mod capable to use bots) there is no cfgpak
file for Bot Raiser.
I remind you that you need at least Soldier Of Fortune Gold Patch
(NEEDED) and Windows 98. If you have only Windows 95, you must
download also the WSH, either from the link in this page, or
directly from Microsoft's site.
Otherwhise, you can install Internet Explorer 5.0, that includes
it.
Moreover, you can download the bot manager you prefer, if it's
supported. You can find the latest version on Bot Epidemic.
Obviously, for every bot/mod, more the symbols, higher the score
(in author's opinions).
