About this Game

SPACECORN is an enormous Spacestation in orbit above earth. One day its invaded and occupied by alien forces. You have hided in a corner and is the only human left. You have a long way to go, and it wont be easy. The monsters are running loose out there, reacting to many things, random or triggered by your actions. The gameplay is free and non-linear, and there are many ways to die. Some might think this game is like any shooter. But I made it more realistic. The very first thing you must do when creeping out of your hidingplace, is to get some guns and something to eat. The Armoury is nearby, and so its the kitchen.
The armoury is heavy guarded, so you will have to find a way to get into it without getting shot by the guards. All the ammo and most of the weapons is there. Without it, you will die in a few minutes. With guns in hands, you have to repair what the aliens have messed up. This will open up doors for you. All you have done is easy to check by lurking around the control-center, where there is a large controldisplays. And the controlcenter is guarded too. This is basic, so that you dont start running around looking for weapons and nifty healthpacks like in an old-time shooter. The non-linear, free gameplay requires that you notice things and remember places. You are free to do everything wrong, but don't blame it on me. I did not made a linear Quake level. I made the biggest 3D spacestation ever, with elevators in all directions, ducts, waterways, dark cellars and storage areas, huge green landscapes on the topdeck, and an endless space on the outside. If you don't know where you are, you be dead.

About the monsters.

The monsters are mostly based on the ones you have seen in the game "Unreal". I dressed them up with what I had at hand, mainly the textures already in use, twisted up their AI and made them act pretty irrational, with a bunch of orders. They got things to do, like guarding, patroling and so on. And they will react different when they see you. Some shoot while some are tame. You will find out...Sneak around and figure out how you can put them down. Listen to them and think before you decide to blow them up. Its suicide to just run around and shoot everything in sight. Your goal is not to kill everything, but to get out and fly away. You use the serpentine modification, real world weapons. Things like handgrenades are of course highly effective for both blowing up monsters and quick suicide. You are alone, with a hundred different monsters, so you will have to THINK. If you run around like a rabbitt, you will die.

Spacecorn is my very first map, and a direct result of me learning how to use the Unreal-editor. The layout is pretty weird because I used to build something with no idea what it should be. It was pretty much more reading than building. Around X-mas time 1999 I thought I should go for a spacestation, and make it playable. Since I had a lot of levels, I wanted to connect them into a pack. But I didn't found a way to go back to the spacestation without starting over again. So I made one big level instead. And spacecorn is one 27 mb level with no loading. Thats about 3 times the huge Epic levels...Does it run? It runs just fine. VERSION 2 NOW UPLOADED

The file is called spacorn02.zip, and is about 9 mb. If you have version 1, delete it, this one is bigger, faster, better moster AI, much more health for you and everything is better.

Specs...

You need a good machine to run it, but its not so bad. The main problem is the size and the lighting effects. That is what eat your CPU. And it enjoy RAM. I spendt a load of time on making everything look as good as possible as fast as possible. If it looked choppy on my system, I downtuned the effects until it looked fast enough. It was buildt and played just fine on a Pentium2 with 96 mb RAM and a voodoo3. The only thing is when you first start up the game. The first few minutes there are some choppy parts, because extreme size. But after a few minutes it runs smooth. Turning off the shiny surfaces will do much in the areas where there are such, like the livingarea and machinery. Turning off High detail textures wont do anything here. There are none. Resolution did very little on my machine, probably because of the voodoo3 power.

To play it, you need the game "Unreal" installed, with the "serpentine" modification. I have a link fer ya here:

Get Serpentine!

And do not start my map from within Unreal, just go to the unreal/maps folder and click on spacecorn01.unr

Spacecorn is downloaded by clicking right here:

One 5 mb texturefile and the 27 mb level, Compressed into a 8 mb zipfile.

Space Corn Walk thru.

This for you who found it to be too hard. Don't read it if you are a tough guy.

Creep out of your hidingplace, pick up the armour jacket on the desk and some at the toilet. Take the elevator all the way up to the tame, drunken aliens. Go intot the bar/nightclub. Take the service elevator down to the kitchen. The baddies are patroling, so watch your steps. Take to the left, then thru the kitchen with the scrambled egg, and pick some fruit. Chances are big they have seen you. Make it to the airducts using the service elevator and to the Armoury. Jump down into it. Pick up everything, especially the shotgun at the table. Bump the door and throw a grenade out for the guard to eat. Hide. Load your guns. Jump out and put down the 3 or 4 skinny green men running after you. It's wise to run around in the kitchen area, there is plenty of fruit several places to keep you up. Kill the bastards. After cleaning up the kitchen area, make it to the bridge in the waterducts, the place where you can see a long vertical hole up to the top. Stand on the bridge for a while. You will see several green and metallic aliens patroling. Do not walk inside before they are out of sight. Then walk in the translucent door, and take the very first door to the left. There is a guard there. You can feed him a grenade. I am sure you have found the grenades to be very effective by now. You can hold the mousebutton until you see maximum power, then release. That should do the job. Look out the translucent window. There are many aliens walking there, and a ton of baddies inside the controlroom. They can't see thru the oneway window, so just relax. Also, the aliens will not kill you, they will threat you. So don't walk inside. They told you to stay out, and if you walk in, you are dead in a second. That room has the door to the outside, but it's locked. To open the locks, You will have to do the job with repairing the things the aliens have fucked up. All the red OFF displays inside the controlroom will then turn blue. So get back to the bridge from where you came. The waterpumps must be turned back on. They are all located in the waterducts. The first one you will find in the corner to the left from where you came. Then go back, jump out and up on the top of the first large tank. Shoot the flying Mantas while running backwards, strafing and loading. The next ones is spread around in the ducts. Don't mess around too much out there, just turn them on and go back where you came from. And you will find the sniper rifle there, so go for it. Now, you find the very long vertical passage that goes all the way up to the top. There is a tiny service elevator there. Use that one to get up, and turn on everything you can find at the power plants. Both green lights must be turned on. You will notice one elevator is damaged. So thats why you must use the main elevator to reach up to the very top. Go back and jump down into the water. You always survive falling in water, even if it's a long jump. Go back and find the main elevator in the hall with the blinking leads and stuff. It's locked. Go to the end and feed the guards a grenade and then some. Open the lock with the button. Take the elevator up, run over the field, pick up some fruit, then out to the six tubes. In the middle of them is the way to reach the second generator. If you do it quick, you can avoid battling the stonemen. It's not worth it. Jump down into the tiny hole there and turn on the last green light at the botttom. Go back up and take the elevator back down. The main door at the controlroom is now opened. So you will find a way to sneal thru the alines there, or some nifty ways to blow them up a few at the time. Keep in mind there is loads of hidingplaces, so survival should be possible. I made it nice several times with testplaying. So then you can go out into the low gravity space...And you found out the first door was damaged here as well, so make it thru the octagon door. Down there, there is a security lock as well. Go thru the storage areas to find the lockbutton. Use the speed movers. Feed the tentacles and the other aliens some lead. Push the lockbutton and go back to the unlocked door. Don't think about the gasbag aliens blocking the second, they are stupid and not worth blowing up unless you want to play a superhero and die. But you can of course try that route as well. Its a silly route though. Instead, you go back to the unlocked door, jump down into the area with a fully loaded shotgun. Give them something to eat. They are easy to get down, but it must be done very fast before they start to reproduce. Now, the spaceship is just out the door. Go out there, and jump up. Take it easy, jump up and down on the ship. You will see the OFF buttons. So the thing that keep the ship in place must be released. That is done by jumping up and pushing the button from where there are cables running. That will release it. You should also jump down to the very bottom and turn on the satelite-radios in the white thing. That would be the very last goal. Then jump back up and now you can fire up the engines and get away! Done! And then walk into the cryo-pod that has opened, for loading the next level. Not done while I wrote this, so it will probably tell ya there is no level around. In any case, you are half done. Will you make it to the Earth or will you run out of fuel and end up on a godforsaken planet full of aliens? Who know? I don't. I must build it first...
