Remember the old classic "PacMan"?
If you do, you should have an idea what this MOD is about.
If you don't.. then you've missed out :)

Anyway, PacUT is a new 'GameType' for Unreal Tournament, where players
compete for the yellow dots scattered around the levels.
There are two general types of dots; Small- and BigDots.
The BigDots can give the one picking them up either a good or bad effect -
you don't know until you pick them up!
The winner of the game is the player with most SmallDots when there are
none left on the level, or when the time runs out.
I'll leave the rest of the details up to you to figure out, as strategies
are many :)
I'd like to give one hint, though.. try noticing the different colors
players radiate when they have the different BigDots.. such knowledge
*will* be a lifesaver - more than once :)

PacUT does not require specially made maps to work, so you should have
plenty of maps to play on. Many ship with UT, and tons more can be found
on the internet, on sites like www.planetunreal.com/nalicity.

* Installation

.umod version:
If you got the umod version of PacUT, it should already be installed since
you're reading this, but if it isn't, it should only be a matter of double-
clicking the file 'PacUT100.umod', and to follow the instructions.
If you get some sort of error message when attempting this, see if the info
on this webpage helps solve the problem:
http://www.planetunreal.com/mutation/FAQ/index.html

.zip version:
Just unzip the contents of the zip file into your UT folder, typically in
C:\UnrealTournament. The two files 'PacUT.int' and 'PacUT.u' should then
automagically be put into your UT's \System folder, and 'PacUT.txt', this
text file, into your UT's \Help folder.

* Starting an offline/bot game

Just like you normally start a Deathmatch/Capture the flag game, you choose
'Start Practise session' from the 'File' menu within UT.
In the popup menu where you choose DM/CTF/etc, pick 'Dotmatch'.
The popup menu for choosing maps should now list *all* installed maps.
You can simply pick a map from the list, and click the 'Start' button if
you want to jump right into the game..
.. if you want to know more about the settings first, read on.
(You might also want to adjust the # of bots you'd like to play with..
it's pretty boring to play alone :)

- The Rules tab
This is where the PacUT specific settings are set.
The 'Tournament' checkbox and 'Time Limit' field are the same settings that
you normally have, and have the same funncions.

The 'Classic PacUT' checkbox:
When checked, the game will be like we designed it; the only weapon all
players have is the Impact Hammer.
Why? Because we found it to fit really well with the concept, and because
it's a pretty fun weapon and tool to play around with.
If you didn't like the Impact Hammer before, you might change your mind
about it after playing PacUT with it solely for a little while.
Take this opportunity to learn the weapon better, and to learn how to jump
with it well!
But as we know everyone won't like the weapon, we included the option to
disable this mode, to play with the normal UT weapons, health and powerups.

The 'Self Damage' field:
During playtesting, most people (if not everyone :) asked us to disable
self-damage, because it's quite fun to jump around with the impact hammer
without taking damage. Some players might not like this, however, so we
added the option to adjust it.
The value entered is 'absolute'.. so if you shoot yourself with a rocket,
or a glob of goo, you lose this much life.

The 'BigDot %' slider:
The higher set, the more 'BigDots' will be spawned on the levels.
0-50%, default: 10%

The 'Dropped %' slider:
The higher set, the more of his/her dots a player drops when he/she dies.
0-100%, default: 30%

The 'Popped %' slider:
The higher set, the more of his/her dropped dots pop out of the dead player.
The rest randomly spawn back onto the level.
0-100%, default: 65%

The sliders named 'SpeedDots', 'InvulDots' and so on.
This system is a bit complicated, but works like this.
The percentage shown next to the dot's name is the possibility of a given
BigDot to become one of this type.
So, all the sliders have to add up to exactly 100%.. something they
automagically do. And this can be the confusing part.
If you move the upper slider - the speeddot slider to the right, thus
increasing the SpeedDot %, the other sliders will move to the left by
themselves, to keep the total at 100%.
The easiest way to tweak the values is like this:
Start with the first one, and set it to a value you like.
Then click the checkbox to the left of the name. This will *lock* the
value to what you set it to. Thus, when you move the next slider, the
locked one(s) won't move. Repeat this until the two last sliders are
divided the way you like.
Might sound a bit more complicated than it really is written here, but
just give it a try in-game, and you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

The button below the sliders, labeled 'Default' resets the BigDot sliders
to the values we've found to be quite balanced.
> Note that it only resets the BigDot sliders, not the values above. <

* Starting an online game
This is done just like starting a practise session, but you choose
'Start new multiplayer game', from the 'Multiplayer' menu. The rules
tab has the same PacUT specific settings.

For server admins:
If you need the name of the PacUT gametype, it's:
PacUT.PacUTGame

> Please note that the webadmin interface does *not* list any maps in the
map popup.. this is an issue we just don't know how to fix - or even if it's
fixable easily. We haven't run into any people who have any answers either,
so for now the way to change maps/set up a map rotation is from within UT. <

* Finding an online game of PacUT
We've made finding online games as easy as we could make it possible, by
adding a tab to the internal server browser. Just like other gametypes, you
simply click on the tab, and advertised PacUT servers will be listed.
At the time that this is written, there are no known servers running PacUT,
though, so the list might just be empty :P

> If you're a server admin and are planning to set up a server running PacUT,
we'd love hear about it, and make/add your server to a list on our
website. <

* Compatibility
We haven't tested PacUT extensively with other mods, as we've developed
PacUT to be "it's own game". (Good explanation, huh! :)
While combining PacUT with a crazy weapon mutator might be fun, it would
probably also break the balance we've tried to create.

More info about anything PacUT-related is found on our website at

This will also be the source for updates and new versions.
