The Demo GreyStar Puzzles

Welcome to the GreyStar Puzzle series which consists of GreyStar4,
the easiest, and GreyStar6, the hardest. In all cases, the object
is to turn all the lines of the star to gray. You do this by
swapping the letters in the circles or nodes. To swap letters, use
the click, drag, and drop method.

Running along the top of your screen is a color guide made up of a
number of vertical bars. From left to right you have green, blue,
purple, gray, red, orange, and yellow. Each color except gray has
a number of shades.

The purpose of the color guide is to show you how far or close a
color is from gray, which is in the center of the color guide.

The star in GreyStar6 has six lines and the one in GreyStar4 has
four lines. In GreyStar6 each line is made up of two segments and
in GreyStar4, which has curved lines, each line is made up of
three segments. In both cases, a line will only have one color.

Every line has four nodes and each node belongs to two lines. The
four nodes in any one line determine its color. That is why when
you swap two nodes, the color of the lines that share these two
nodes, changes. If you see two lines, one far to the left of gray
and the other far to the right of gray, then swapping one or more
of their nodes should bring both of them closer to gray. You can
click on any line to see its exact position on the color guide.
For GreyStar to work properly, you must set your display to 64K
(16 bit) colors or higher. A resolution of 800x600 or higher is
recommended as long as you can get the 64K colors.

To print the instructions, press the Ctrl+P keys or click on Print
under the File Menu. For best results, set page orientation to
Landscape before printing.

You should try GreyStar4 first because it is easier.

If you are a registered purchaser of GreyStar8 (Full version only)
and you are able to solve this puzzle we will ship you a free copy
of one of our other games: Jux, Simpley or A15x6. Demo versions of
these are available on the Internet so you can get an idea of
which one you prefer. The URL is:

Rules on how to win are included in the full function version of
the GreyStar Puzzles.

To play any of the GreyStar puzzles you need an IBM compatible PC
with a 486 chip or better and a speed of at least 66 MHz. You need
Windows 95. You must have 3 MB of free space on your hard drive.
Sound is not required but it makes the experience more enjoyable.

You must set the display to 64K colors (16-bit) or higher. These
products will not run properly with 256 or 16 color settings. In
addition, set the resolution to 800x600 or higher as long as you
can get the 64K colors. To verify that you have an adequate color
setting, look at the color guide on top of your screen. There
should be no missing colors or colors that are out of place, for
example, a gray where you would expect a blue. There should be
only one gray, in the center of the color guide. It has a white
arrow inside.

When you click on any line of the star, a small black arrow will
point to the matching color bar in the color guide. If you click
on a bar of the color guide, the small black arrow should point to
the bar itself. If this does not happen, your color settings are
not correct.

This is the Demo Version of GreyStar. It includes GreyStar4 and
GreyStar6 only. Each time the demo version of GreyStar6 comes up
it has the same colors. In the full function version of GreyStar6,
the star comes up with different colors each time.
