FAQ and Troubleshooting

Q: ARC reports the error that the ddraw.dll is missing as an import library and ARC will not run.
A: You need to have at least DirectX 7a installed in order to run ARC. This is supplied on the ARC CD and can be installed by inserting the CD into your CD drive and choosing the DirectX7 option from the launcher that is presented. See Installation for more information.

Q: When I run ARC I am presented with the intro movies which - as I’ve seen them several times - I would like to skip. How can I do this?
A: When you start ARC, run the "Select Video Card" shortcut from the Start…Programs…Aussie Rules Coach menu and select the option to skip the intro movies in the pop up dialogue.

Q: When I run ARC I am presented with the start menu but I wanted to see the intro movies again. How do I get to see them?
A: When you chose your video card you selected the option to "Skip intro movies". Run the "Select Video Card" shortcut from the Start…Programs…Aussie Rules Coach menu and deselect the option to skip the intro movies.

Q: I have opted to view the intro movies but I can't see anything. What can I do?
A: First, ensure that you have at least DirectMedia6 installed in order to view the movie sequences in ARC. This is supplied on the ARC CD and can be installed by inserting the CD into your CD drive and choosing the DirectMedia option from the launcher that is presented. See Installation for more information.

Q: I can run the game but some of the graphics look corrupted. Why is this?
A: This is likely to be due to your video card drivers not being up-to-date or not being compatible with the version of DirectX required to run the game. Please contact your video card vendors (for details look in the documentation supplied with your hardware) to obtain the most recent drivers. It is usually possible to download the latest drivers from the internet sites of your video card manufacturers.

Q: I have two video cards in my computer. Can I choose which card to run ARC on?
A: Yes. When you first run ARC or choose the "Select Video Card" shortcut from Start…Programs…Aussie Rules Coach menu, you are presented with a list of all video cards that are recognized by your computer. Choose the card you want to use and press OK to launch ARC using that video card.

Q: I use two monitors with my computer but the ARC video selector does not recognize any video cards in my computer. What can I do?
A: ARC was not designed for use with multiple monitors. You must disable one of them through Windows control panel settings.

Q: I want to install ARC on a drive other than 'C'. is this possible?
A: No, the ARC installer does not allow you to install to any drive other than your 'C' drive.

Q: I want to listen to my own music played on my computer's CD drive while playing ARC. Can I do this?
A: While the menu screens are shown in ARC, track 2 of any audio CD will be played if that CD is in your computer's CD drive. Put the CD of your choice in your CD drive before playing ARC. Make sure the CD is not playing before you start to play ARC. A suitable game music music track is supplied on the ARC CD.

Q: I cannot hear any music while the ARC menus are being shown but I can hear the sound effects.
A: This is because the sound effects are stored on your hard drive and the music is played from the CD. First of all ensure that the ARC CD is in your CD drive. ARC will detect whether this is so and play the music. If the music can still not be heard, exit from ARC and check your audio settings in Windows (see your Windows documentation for how to do this). Finally, you may need to confirm with an experienced computer technician that your CD drive can play music through your sound card and that it has the relevant Sound Card connection.

Q: The Windows cursor appears on screen during the game but I can't move it.
A: On certain video cards the Windows cursor will appear for a few seconds. You cannot use this cursor since the mouse is linked directly to the separate ARC cursor. It will disappear and can be ignored.

Q: Pressing ALT+TAB during an ARC 3D match causes the players to appear differently.
A: This occurs in some older video cards. Try updating your driver (contact your video card vendor for details) to remedy this problem.

Q: I can't type my entire name in the new game menu.
A: This is because ARC restricts player names to a maximum of 15 characters.

Q: The movies play really slowly on my computer.
A: Please ensure your computer is at least as good as the minimum specifications detailed in the manual. Closing down ARC and restarting your machine may also help particularly if you have, or have had, other applications running in Windows at the same time as running ARC. Restarting your machine and making ARC the first program you run may help.

Q: I have played 15 games in my ARC season but I now get a message that says I cannot continue any further in the game when I try to play the next game.
A: This is because you did not finish high enough in the ARC League over the 15 games. In order to get into the quarter-, semi- and ARC cup-finals you must have coached your team into the top 6. Try again with a new team and/or a new strategy. Good luck!
