The Coach Command Categories

Shooting

Determines the maximum distance from which a player will generally shoot. The further to the left the slider is, the closer to the goal the player will need to be before deciding to shoot.

Determines the angle from which a player is prepared to shoot from. The further to the left the slider is, the more directly in line with the goal the player will need to be before deciding to shoot.

Passing

These sliders allow you to influence the players’ decisions when choosing a suitable team-mate to pass to.

Determines a player’s preferences when considering the distance to pass the ball.

Determines a player’s preferences when considering which direction to pass the ball. Left and right are relative to the direction your team is shooting, i.e., the players’ left and right, as they look towards their opponent’s goal.

Offense (Possession)

This slider controls how the player will behave when in possession of the ball. The further to the right the slider is, the more likely the player is to run with the ball. The further to the left, the more likely the player is to attempt to pass the ball off to a team-mate. The player will consider his available running and passing options, as well as your tactical instruction when deciding what to do with his possession.

Leading

Leading is when a player tries to evade his marking opponent and runs to a free space to create a clearer target for a team-mate to footpass to.

Determines the amount of lead the player will attempt to make either by running into space away from (short) or towards (long) the goal.

Determines the amount of lead the player will attempt to make either to the left or right of his position. Left and right are relative to the direction your team is shooting, i.e., the players’ left and right, as they look towards their opponent’s goal.

The two leading command sliders combine to determine the preferred direction and distance of the player's leads. For example, setting both sliders to the far right will cause the player to lead large distances towards goal and to the right of his position. With both sliders set in the middle the player will not make leads in any direction at all.

Tackling

Determines how much of a priority the player will make it to attack the ball and make tackles. The further to the right the slider is, the more likely it is that the player is going to get drawn into the action when the opposition have possession. When the slider is to the left, the player will attempt to stay clear so as to be a better target for a team-mate to pass to.

Marks

Determines how much of a priority the player will make it to try and play on after taking a successful mark.

Position

These sliders allow you to adjust where a player will generally position himself. With both sliders in the middle position, a player will use his default field position (see Fig. 9).

Determines the distance from the goal that the player will position himself, relative to his default field position. For example setting the slider to the far right for a Centre Half Back will move his general position further forward than the average Centre and setting the slider to the far left would place him further back than the average Full Back.

Determines the lateral position of the player relative to his default field position in a similar way to the Short/Long slider. Left and right are relative to the direction your team is shooting, i.e., the players’ left and right, as they look towards their opponent’s goal.

Follow (Coverage)

Determines the players offensive positioning. While your team has possession, the further to the right the slider is, the greater the player will make it his priority to move with the play.

Determines the player's defensive positioning. While the opposition has possession, the further to the right the slider is, the greater the player will make it a priority to chase his matched, opposing player. (See Field Positions for a list of match-ups.)

Cameras

There are three different camera modes available: TV cam, Player cam and Wide cam. You can toggle between these modes using the three buttons located at the bottom left of the screen.

TV cam will follow the action using several different cameras, just like on TV.

Player cam will follow the currently selected player (or the first player selected if multiple players are selected). This is a useful mode for monitoring how your players are responding to their command sliders and how your tactics are being interpreted.

Wide cam is a single overview camera that will follow the action at a distance. This mode can be useful for monitoring how your team tactics are working.

Fast Forward

This button at the bottom of the screen can be used to speed up the action. This is useful if you are happy with the current instructions to your players, and want the game to move along faster. Simply click on the button again if you want to return to normal speed, giving more time to think about your tactics.

Pausing the Match

The ESCAPE key can be pressed at any time to pause the game.

Two options are available when the game is paused: Continue and Forfeit 50-0. Selecting the Continue button, or pressing ESCAPE again will resume play.

Quitting the Match Early

When the Game is paused, selecting the Forfeit 50-0 will quit the current game and you are deemed to have been beaten by 50 points to nil.

Returning from a Match

Figure 6 ( Post Match)

At the end of the match the players will leave the field and you will be returned to a Post Match analysis screen (see Fig. 6). Here you can assess your players' performances based on their match statistics. Select the button in the top right of the screen when you are finished and you will be taken on to the Management Console, with the Fixtures Menu displaying the results of all the matches for the week (see Fig. 7).

A match can be finished early, but only at the cost of forfeiting the game 50 points to nil (see Quitting the Match Early).
