x "Cant create cdx surface" error message after clicking "ResumeGame":
Go to options and check "Use SystemMemory only".

 
x "Cant connect to server" when sitting behind a firewall:
You have to enable port 8765 (WarEnsemble uses this port only) in your firewall, ie with IP Masquerading.
