WraithAdmin 1.0 Beta Tutorial
Setting up WraithAdmin is easy. Before you start, pick a username and a password that you'd like to use with the WraithAdmin server. Then, pick a port for your server to wait on. The default port is 23 (Telnet). Now, before you can fire that sucker up, you need to set your username and password.
Type the desired username and password into the text boxes, and then click the "Set User/Pass" button. The title of the WraithAdmin server will change to show the current username/password on the server. That's it! Now, press the "Start WraithAdmin Server" button.
Note that in the example above, I set a username of "shogo" and a password of "server", and I started the server up on port 1055. Now that it's running, how to you access it? Through telnet.
From the Start menu (in Windows 95/98), click on "run". Type in "telnet.exe" and click "OK". This will run your default telnet client, and once it's window pops up, select "Remote System" from it's File menu. This little dialog will pop up:
Type in the IP address of the WraithAdmin server into the "Host Name" textbox, and the port you used into the "Port" textbox. Then click "Connect", and you're connected! The first thing you'll see is a "login>>" prompt. Type in your username and hit return. Then you'll see a "pass>>" prompt, type in your password and hit return. Congratulations! You've just logged into a WraithAdmin server! At the "WraithAdmin>>" prompt, type "help" (without the quotes) and pull up your commandlist.
Experiment with the commands. With this tool, you can start a Shogo server with your choice of six configuration files, as well as restart and kill servers. To just run a regular Shogo server (using the default config file), try this:
The command "serv" runs a regular Shogo server. To run servers with the different config files, try "startserver1" to start a shogo server with one.cfg, "startserver2" to start a server with two.cfg, etc. There are five config files that come along with Wraith admin.
These config files are, of course, completely editable, and you can make just about what ever server config you want...but you HAVE to name them "one.cfg", "two.cfg", etc. It WILL not work if you don't.
Now that you've seen how to run a Shogo server, let's see how to stop a Shogo server. There are two ways you can go about it: you can kill the server, or you can restart it. The by-far most stable way is to "killserver" it.
The command "killserver" shuts down the last server ran. If you are managing four servers, and you issue the "killserver" command, it will kill the fourth one first. If you run it again, it will kill the third one, and another time will kill the second one, and so on. The "reserv" command is basically a macro of the "kill server" and "serv" commands; it will kill the last server ran, and run a default server in it's place.
Everything a user does in WraithAdmin (with the exception of issuing the "help" command) is logged, naming the action performed, the user, and the system time. To view this log from the prompt, use the "logdump" command. To save it to read later, use the "archive" command, and the log will be saved as "achive.log" in your Shogo directory. To view your archived log, type "aview".
There are two ways for you to logout of WraithAdmin: use the "exit" command and logout, leaving the WraithAdmin server running, or by using the "terminate" command and shutting down the WraithAdmin server. Please note that shutting down the WraithAdmin server will not shut down any Shogo servers still running. When you type "exit" to logout, a you'll lose connection from the server.
If you want, you can log in again later (if you used the "exit" command).
The "lockdown" and "unlock" fucntions are minor security functions, allowing the remote user to close a machine from keyboard and mouse input. It's nothing really that complex, it just removes the desktop (icons and all), the taskbar, and removes the hotkey "ctrl-alt-del" :-). It will not, however, minimize any windows that are open when the "lockdown" was issued, except for the WraithAdmin server window.
