@Introduction
This program is a combined UFOpedia with X-COM: UFO Defense
(UFO: Enemy Unknown), X-COM: Terror From The Deep,
X-COM: Apocalypse and X-COM: Interceptor.
With some additional UFOpedia subjects and with the
whole backround story of X-COM.
If you are reading this file with a normal text-viewer
you will see strange symbols around. These are made
to make file viewable from the program it self.
@Installation
The installation is simple, just unzip the file (you have add
"-d" if you are using pkunzip) into a directory, and
run XCPEDIA.EXE, and voila, the program starts.
You can also run the program with XCPNOSOU.BAT if you want
no sound.
@Requirements for the program
The requirements for the program would be something
like a 386 or something, but the program tend
not to work on new machines, It's most certain it is
something with Win98, you could try to make a clean Dos
boot disk. But I would recommend to use a little
older machine, something like Pentium 166 or less.
Or you could format the hard disk to FAT16 and Dos,
that would also fix the problem.
@Sound
You can de-activate the sound three ways, either
select it off via the main menu, start the program
with the "nosound" parameter, or you can start the program
by the XCPNOSOU.BAT.
The sound card has to be Sound Blaster compatible.
The sound routines are very poor and some machines tend to
crash with the sound on, so I would recommend to turn it off.
But the sound gives the program a little more X-COM feeling
to it.
@Command-Line options
The parameters must start with a / or -.
The parameters are not case sensitive.
p [number]
  Sets which picture to be used as background.
  Valid number ranges from 1 to 10.
  Picture sets also what colours the text has.
  Example: xcpedia -p 5
  As default this is randomized.

nosound
  Turns the sound off.
  Example: xcpedia /nosound
  As default the sound is on.
@Controls
Up and down: Scroll up and down the subject in the pedia
             file, or to scroll up and down the text
             of the subject.
Pageup, pagedown, home and end: To scroll up and down
             with bigger jumps like the above,
             anyway you get the idea.
Left and Right: To change subject while reading about
                one.
@UFOpedia subjects
All the pedias is directly taken from the pedia
files the games have, as I ripped the text I saw
some text which was in the file but not in the game.
Like all of the X-COM 1 Craft armaments description.

I also found some X-COM 3 subjects about items which
was not in the final version of the game. I decided
not include these, since the items are NOT in X-COM 3.

I decided to add some other subjects which I think
emerge in nicely; Mission Briefings, Historic Highlights
and Manual Notes.
The text for those is directly taken from the games and their
respective manuals.
@Other Productions by author
An X-COM 1 Partial Conversion (obtainable at X-Command).
A small Multiplayer Batch for X-COM 1 and 2 (also
obtainable at X-Command).
@Future Productions
I am to update this program with new pedia subjects when
other X-COM games arrive. I am thinking of making a version
with images and partial SVGA.

And of course my upcoming X-COM: Skyranger
will come (hopefully) by the end of this year.
