Obligatory Readme File Herein lies the final chapter in the DooM Special Edition Series. "Thy Flesh Consumed" contains the last 9 levels, meticulously resurrected under the Quake2 engine. Credits: Omega Development: Mappack responsible for the torch lights, invisible monsters, and other effects. Primordial Soup: Skies ACD Systems: Sound effects Tony "Mad Dog" Ferrara and David Hyde: For MapSpy and for helping me out when I said, "WTF?" David Hyde: GenSurf This is a self-extracting zip file that will automatically place TFC to c:\quake2\tfc. If quake2 is located on a different drive or in a different directory, change it accordingly. Double-click on tfc.bat to launch the game. WARNING! Some of these levels will severely tax the capabilites of your machine. Some of the large levels, such as e4m7, e4m8, and e4m9, I chopped up into sub-levels to ease the strain on the CPU and video card. Even so, you will, at times, be wishing for something faster. If you have doubts whether or not your rig can handle TFC, launch the game, bring down the console, and type MAP E4M8B. If the scene renders fine, go ahead and start the game at E4M1. If the trees render partially invisible, your video card is not hefty enough to run the mod. The original Doom sky for TFC is not very good. Not only does it lack the personality of the other DooM skies, it doesn't tile very well, showing off its seams. I gave a half-hearted effort into fixing it. If you REALLY want to use the original sky, bring down the console, and type SKY D1SKY4 to bring it up. Otherwise, I think you'll find the skies produced by Primordial Soup very nice indeed. During playtesting, I found that I could get through some of the levels without getting the necessary keys. This was primarily because the Quake guy can jump whereas the DooM guy could not. I therefore had to modify some things to prevent this from happening. Another huge problem was keys. Unlike DooM, where you lost everything when you began a new level, Q2 allows the player to hold on to all items, including keys. Therefore, if you are playing e4m2, and have got the blue key, you can easily slip to the Secret Level (e4m9) WITH THE BLUE KEY. To prevent this from happening, I rigged a trigger_key to a func_explosive just before you slip to the next level. If you DON'T have a key, you'll get a "Key Required" message but you'll still go to the Secret Level. Sorry. There's no way around it. I hope you enjoy playing Thy Flesh Consumed. It ends a 2-year endeavor to bring DooM back to life. Real Life prevented me from finishing it sooner.
