INTRODUCTION

QuakeDC is a port of Quake to Dreamcast we at Titanium Studios did for in
in some space time. It is fully functional except for networking and thanks
to our skills and experience, it took just a week and a half to complete.
Not too bad considering the number of things that needed dealing with
converting OpenGL code to Direct3D, new file I/O, performance issues,
complicated controller support, compacted savegames on the VMS amongst
many smaller issues. In fact it represents about as far as we could go
without modifying the content (which we couldn't distribute) or making
significant improvements to the engine.

You need to be a Dreamcast developer with the Windows CE for Dreamcast SDK
version 2.1 to be able to run the game or build the source. You'll also need
a copy of the PC version of Quake - either retail or shareware.

INSTRUCTIONS (SHORT VERSION)

Install Quake to the PC. Place the contents of the Quake directory in the
root of an emulated GD-ROM. Stick QuakeDC.exe in your
_FLATRELEASE\Applications directory. Boot with DCTool and run by typing
"s QuakeDC".

QuakeDC sets its own DisplaySettings registry entries so just about any
Platform.reg should work. A very bloated OS image may cause memory issues
so try using the Configuration Tool to build one that isn't bloated up
with unnecessary stuff (e.g HTML).

CD MUSIC

CD music is disabled by default to prevent the unpleasant sound of
arbitrary files used pad the GD tracks. To use CD music, first place
music tracks in the GD image. QuakeDC will use GD tracks 4-13. Once
Quake has started, type "cd_enable 1" on the Quake console (press
'~' to bring down the console). The next level that loads will have
music.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE GD-ROM IMAGE

Install PC Quake to the hard disk.

Start a new project in GD-Workshop.

Using Explorer, select all files and directories in the directory where you
installed Quake.

Drag the selected items onto the GD-Workshop track named 03-MODE1.

Drag a dummy file one at a time onto each of the other tracks to keep
GD-Workshop happy. (PAK0.PAK in Quake's ID1 directory is good for this).

If it has not been done so already, go to the Emulator menu in GD-Workshop
and select "Switch to emulator". If it says "Switch to GD-ROM" its already
been done.

Again from the Emulator menu, select Close the Door.

You should now be able to boot with DCTool and run QuakeDC.exe.
