Description : A single-player remix of q3dm7 (Temple of Retribution) for Arcane Dimensions. Mainly using a mix of Makkon's textures, and Socks Medieval set, with a few borrowed from other places.

Story : The story takes place in the years leading up to events of Quake 3. You are part of a team of rangers employed to identify suitable locations for the great tournament. After some searching, you come across a perfect arena, but unfortunately it's inhabited by a band of Quake's knights and their minions - you must clear them out if you want a chance of earning your commission!

Additional Credits to :
Sock for Arcane Dimensions.
Sock + Makkon for the textures.
Dumptruck_ds, for the excellent trenchbroom tutorials.
The quake mapping discord, for answering all my questions and making suggestions.
Bal for debugging my entity setups.
Huge thanks to all the playtesters: Greenwood, PoolboyQ, ptoing, Ryack, McClone, ZungryWare

Mapper's notes :
I decided I wanted to do a Quake 3 remix after playing Lunaran's amazing q3dm6 remake in the Underdark Overbright pack. q3dm7 is always a map that I remember fondly, ever since being blown away by it when first playing q3test, so I didn't have to think too long before picking it as my target. I came up with a rough plan for the route through the level within no time at all, and I actually didn't spend too long looking at the original map during the making of this - just a couple of runs through at the start to refresh my memory of the proportions. I wasn't too strict about staying completely faithful to the original: I've taken small liberties in some places and larger liberties in others - hopefully the main elements of the original are still visible!

The route through the level is essentially a figure of 8 - I had wanted to allow the player to go either way round the loop, and have different gameplay setups for each direction, but half-way through making the map I decided that would take more effort than I had energy for, so I blocked off one of the routes with what is now the silver key door.

For the secrets, I didn't want to just give items that made the rest of the level's encounters easier, so I made them separate "standalone" encounters - mostly designed to be powerup-rampage-style affairs. If you're quick you'll have a few seconds left on the powerups to kill a couple of enemies outside of the secret, but nothing to change the balance of the level too much.

Finally, I couldn't find any songs from the quake soundtrack that I liked in this map, so I decided to make something for it. Earlier versions of the map had something that was a bit more upbeat, and less ambient, but that received mixed reviews from the playtesters, so I went with something more ambient ni the end.

Thanks for playing!
