Gloomier Keep
-------------------------

June 16th 2012 will be 10 years to the day I released Contract Revoked, my dusty, arcane, and heavingly atmospheric debut into the realm of Quake single player mapping.

This remix of e1m5 - Gloom Keep was intended to appear inside the pak file for the third and final content release of Quoth. Several new features and pieces of content would have been debuted within its knavish and, I suppose, gloomy environs. Despite their absence, the map reached a complete and playable state some time ago. Since it is knavish, quothic and displays what I hope is the mapping prowess I have developed in the intervening decade, while also harks back to both the original id map, my own episode and all the tracts of Fodrian in between, I think it makes a fitting waypoint for this anniversary.
While I feel a pang of regret that it is missing a few key finishing touches, I think it would be worse not to release an otherwise distinctive and enjoyable map.

I don't know if there will be any more content, but even if not I feel Gloomier Keep is a good choice for a last word.

Installation
-------------------------

Unzip all files to your id1/maps folder.

Note that additional .bsp files are included besides the map itself. These are external b-models used in the map proper. In the same way ammo boxes and health packs are made from external .bsp files, Quoth part 2 supports external b-models for all appropriate entites e.g. func_doors, func_plats. This has two main advantages: each external b-model can be used multiple times in a map, saving precaches, and the models can be lit independently of the location they appear. The _plat and _pusher models are used more than once in the map; _skewer is used only once.
This map was intended to be a 'live' demonstration of this feature in Quoth.

Note also that the filename is e1m5quotha and not e1m5quoth.
If another Quoth release happens, a version of this map will be included in the pak file with the appropriate 'e1m5quoth' filename, including any alterations or additions. If not...you'll just have to make your own way home.

With Heart, Faith, And Steel,

Kell
