Title: Wroth
Filename: wroth1.bsp
Release date: first beta released Jan 29, 2022
Author: Spoot (Spootnik)
Email: phorgettable (at) protonmail (dot) com

My 2nd map, a base themed map. Short-to-medium sized.
progs_dump 2.0 used.

IMPORTANT
This map has modified monsters:

1) tan grunts and enforcers are normal
2) green grunts shoot nails, with 60 health (default is 30). They can still be killed quite easily - one or two double-barrelled shotgun shots or about three shots with the single barreled shotgun - but in groups they pose more of a real challenge.
3) red grunts shoot grenades, also with 60 health.
4) blue enforcers shoot their normal lasers, but with 120 health (default is 80). Again, they'll pose a bit more of a challenge since they can't just be staggered/pain-animated to death.
5) red enforcers shoot rockets, also with 120 health.
6) black enforcers shoot their normal lasers, but they have 200 health (same as an ogre).

Recommended to play on Normal (skill 1) or Hard (skill 2). There is an Easy setting, but it's a bit too easy.

Hard and normal difficulties have any non-standard enemies berkserked.
That is, the regular tan grunts and enforcers, and any other enemies can all be pain-staggered as usual. But the modified monsters (above) are all berserked, so they don't stagger.
Hard has slightly more enemies and fewer pick-up items.
Easy mode has fewer enemies, and none of the enemies are in berserk mode.

Notes on this beta: The ogres in the sewer area get stuck because the ceilings are too low. I'm still deciding how to deal with that. For now, consider them "stationary" because they're too fat.

Single Player: Yes
Cooperative 2-4 Player: No
Deathmatch 2-4 Player: No
Difficulty Settings: Yes

Tested with QuakeSpasm and the re-release on Steam. Both work fine.

Known bugs: the second blue enforcer in the water who is supposed to drop the silver key will sometimes (rarely, but it happens) drop the key through the wall, leaving you SOL for progression. If you're unfortunte enough for this to happen to you, there's not much to do but restart/load a save.

Unzip the contents of the zip file into your /quake/ directory, so that the /wroth/ folder is alongside, not in, the /id1/ folder. Create a shortcut to your favorite Quake engine port in your new /wroth/ directory. Via properties, edit the command line for that shortcut with the following appended to the command line:

-game wroth +skill # +map wroth

where # will be 0 (easy), 1 (normal) or 2 (hard).

I didn't plan/test the map for nightmare (skill 3), especially since the Steam re-release provides an alternate approach to nightmare difficulty. But that should also work fine if you want to try that.
I recommend Normal or Hard.

Also, remember that if you're on the re-release, extract /wroth/ into the /rerelease/ folder.

Thanks to bmFbr for letting me use pieces of his map as prefabs, from which I learned to make a lot of my walls. I took a lot of inspiration from his map, Mountains of Insanity, which can be found here: https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/bmfbrsp2_v1.2.html

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to idbase_mega.wad and idbase_ultimate.wad. I took textures from there and re-organized them and renamed them for my own use.
Thanks to dumptruck_ds for his excellent YouTube tutorials on Trenchbroom.
Thanks to everyone on the QuakeMapping discord for all the help.
Thanks to everyone who helped playtest on both discord and r/quake (you know who you are; thanks for the demos)
Thanks to Id for Quake.
