MapList - Map lister for Quake console (version 1.0)

INTRODUCTION:
Maplist is a utility program for Quake(tm) players that allows
them to list the names of installed maps in the console while playing the
game. This avoids leaving the game or switching to another console, just
to try and find a map. There are other utilities similar to this for DOS,
but I could not find one for Linux, so I wrote my own.

HOW IT WORKS:

(see "INSTALLATION" before trying things listed below)

When you run the "ml" command, it attempts to list all the .bsp
files in the configured directory. Then it processes them into a quake
script file, called ML.CFG, that looks like this:

// MapList Map Database (ml-linux 1.0)
alias ml "echo cthcrush dark_as deso drmines fc frcastl2 garden giggler3
map01 mini murder1 q_unlag1 skull village zebub"

When you run Quake, it starts the AUTOEXEC.CFG file automatically, which
then invokes ML.CFG, setting up an alias for the "ml" command inside the
Quake console. Pop up the Quake Console (the "`" key), and type "ml". It
should list all your maps.

INSTALLATION:
First, pick the 4DOS or the Linux (bash) version. If you want to
use it in DOS, get 4DOS from http://www.jpsoft.com/. If you want to use
Linux, well, read on.

LINUX INSTALLATION:
1. Open "ml" in your favorite text editor, and set the two directory
variables, MAPDIR and MAPFILE. MAPDIR is the directory containing your
maps, usually /path/to/quake/dir/id1/maps. MAPFILE is the path and
   name of the ML.CFG file.
2. Optionally, uncomment the DEBUG keyword too. This will prevent ml from
writing an ML.CFG just yet. It will instead display output on the tty.
3. Place the "ml" program in /usr/local/bin or any directory in your path,
set the premissions to your choice.
4. Add a line "exec ml.cfg" to your autoexec.cfg file in the ID1 directory.
5. Run "ml".
6. Start Quake and try it out!!!

4DOS INSTALLATION:
1. The 4DOS version assumes it is run from the QUAKE directory, and
ID1\MAPS is where the maps are.
2. Place ML.BTM in your Quake Directory.
3. Add a line "exec ml.cfg" in your autoexec.cfg file in the ID1 directory.
4. Run "ml".
5. Start Quake and try it out!!!
6. Please note that the 4DOS version is completely unsupported except for
bug fixes. I may add new features to the Linux version, but not the
4DOS version, unless it is very very simple. (ie. _not_ multiple map
   directory support)

OTHER STUFF
If I put out another feature list (ie. not bug fixes only), I will
add a manual page, but I'm too lazy for just the first release.

Good luck, and happy quaking!
