qmdl v0.1 by Preach (andrew.denner@btinernet.com)

        About

qmdl is a python module for reading and writing .mdl format files. It can decode a valid .mdl file into a python object. You can then modify the model's values directly in python, or use some of the helper functions to change the more prickly parts. Finally the module will export the modified object back into .mdl format with your changes reflected.

     Installation

qmdl was developed in Python 3.2, other version of Python have not been tested (please send me some feedback if you are brave enough to do so!). To install, extract the "qmdl" subfolder from this zip into your python "Lib" folder. Although not necessary, I recommend also aquiring a copy of the Python Image Library: www.pythonware.com/products/pil/
The PIL is a handy tool if you want to import new skins for your model, almost certainly a common task.

        Usage

Sadly this release is very short on documentation. I intend to add examples and guides to the qmdl page, but I know at time of writing the pages are quite bare. The most important information about this version can be found in the comments of mdl.py, where a number of UNENFORCED CONSTRAINTS are noted. Crucially the .mdl format needs every frame to have the same number of vertices as the skinmap. qmdl v0.1 does nothing to enforce that constraint, trusting that you will only break the rule temporarily. Less forgivably it does nothing to warn you if you export a model which still breaks the rule, instead producing a corrupt model.
