Quake 2 Textures HTML Files
By Richard Neff (rickneff@aol.com)

Readme.txt

These HTML files are designed to make life a little easier using DMM2 by listing the textures and names of those textures. The pages are broken up into two main parts: the All Textures listings and the Category listings.

All Textures listings - This is all the textures in alphabetical order. There are 1,329 individual textures in Quake 2, so
this listing takes up 4 pages. Due to their large size, some browsers may have trouble displaying all of the textures in
the listings. THEREFORE, I claim no responsibility if your browser dies or chokes on these listings! Additionally, these
pages may take some time to load, so be forewarned!

Category listings - I liked the original DMM and Hexmaker listings where the textures were divided into categories. There
isn't much sense to view all the textures when you just want a door texture. I've tried to mirror, as closely as possible,
the categories in the DMM and Hexmaker texture files, although Quake 2 differs a bit from both Quake 1 and Hexen 2.

The Categories are as follows:
-Animated
-Boxes
-Computers
-Doors
-Grates/Ducts
-Lights
-Liquids
-Metals (and pretty much any solid wall, floor or ceiling texture)
-Misc
-Pipes/Wires
-Pods/Shuttles
-Stone
-Symbols
-Windows

Since everyone differs in their editing style, no doubt some of you will disagree with my choice of categories for some tex
tures. To which I have to respond: Unless you plan to make/modify your own pages, you're going to just have to cope with
the above categories. Sorry.

Most of the category listings are fairly small, however, the Metals category is quite large and broken into two pages.
I never really could decide how to break this category down smaller, so it ended up being a really big category.

You'll also notice that on the All Textures pages, the category for a texture is listed below that texture with a hyperlink
so you can jump to that category. I did this since you may know a particular texture exists, but it's not in the category
you expected.

Additional Notes

These pages were designed in 800x600, which is recommended for DMM2, or higher resolution. So, if things don't look right
in 640x480, well, I warned you! Also, you might want to use more than 256 colors (I used True Color) to see the images at
their best. Again, since there are hundreds of video cards types/brands out there, I'm not going to make any guarantees
that you won't ever have any problems with these pages.

A final note: These pages/images take up a lot of space on your hard disk, so have at LEAST 7Mb of hard disk space where
ever you unzip these files. You'll have to create a directory ahead of time before unzipping the files as well. All image
s are in .gif format, so if you want to print/view them in another program (like ThumbsPlus) you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks to everyone on the DMM mailing list, for lots of info/ideas that were used to create this list. Most notably Marcel
for recommending ThumbsPlus, which was used a great deal for this project and to Astaroth for testing this thing ahead of
time! I used ThumbsPlus and FrontPage98 to do these pages, and despite that I had to override or modify some of the things
they did to the pages, overall, they saved me a LOT of time.

Addition by MadFox 8 mei 2006 :

I recompiled these gifs back to bmp files, so the html files became useless. I did this with the purpose to put them into a
wad file, so they would have a better entrance for the Quake1 user/builder.
What I also tried is to regain the animated textures, but I soon experienced this was quite a job, and I suspected myself of
making failures. Some buttons give the animation after they are used, so it would be queer to have them already animated.
Same goes for the water textures. I thought it better if someone wanted to use them, they should give it an extra try by
searching the corresponding textures and change the name into the unified name with a +0_ to extention number and load it
up again.
I'd like to thank Richard Neff in his efforts to reconverse the Quake2 textures into a usable Quake1 texture set.
