D-Day: Normandy 4.1
Linux Build
2002-07-24 pbowens

At last, the long awaited linux build is here. Much effort went into this port, and while it is not perfect,
it is now functionable. Due to the differences on how user-libraries are handled, the linux version of
D-Day: Normandy will only function with the usa and grm libraries. Any user library developed will not function
correctly once the initial map is loaded. As of right now (and the foreseeable future), this is of no practical
concern.

To run a server, first secure the linux version quake2. This should be available on id software's ftp server.
Next, just download the full install zip from the main D-Day website and extract. The only full install is win32,
which is OK since all you really need are the data game files. After that, extract this dday-4.1-linux.tar.gz into
your dday/ directory.

After that, it works pretty much like win32. I reccomend you go into the dday/ directory and edit server.cfg
accordingly. Then run quake2 in dedicated mode, switch to game dday, and exec server.cfg.. ie:

# ./quake2 +set dedicated 1 +set game dday +exec server.cfg

The following platforms are known to work:
	Debian (potato)
	RedHat 7.1
	Slackware 8.0

It seems the libraries will not load under FreeBSD's linux emulation.

Lastly, this release is practically unsupported. Use at your own risk. You can try emailing dday@planetquake.com,
but I can not gaurantee any sort of technical assistance to solve the problem. There are just way too many
platforms, versions, and distributions to work across the board. Having said that, if your distro works and is
not listed, do send me an email so I can update the compatible list. It is reccomended you check the forums at
D-Day's main website if you should seek any help.

If you can not get these binaries to work, I strongly reccomend you consider compiliing your own version of quake 2
(also found on id's ftp), downloading the D-Day: Normandy source, and using your own compiled binaries.

This is released under the GNU GPL. Please see the attached gnu.txt for more information on the license. The
source code may be found at D-Day: Normandy's website:
