Action UT - Magnum Philosophy MP3
AUT - Magnum Philosophy features Creative Labs' EAGLE technology. That means
for each AUT-MP map an audio map, based on bsp technology, is being added.
EAGLE, which is based on EAX 2, for the first time offers a way to properly
design the 3D aural properties in maps. So if you are using headphones, a
hifi system or even a surround setup, you are going to experience some
really good atmosphere (and of course be able to play alot longer without
getting headaches, since the unnatural sound you usually have tires your
sense of hearing), if you are using a EAX 2 soundcard that is.
Secondly, AUT - Magnum Philosophy comes with a soundtrack in mp3 format. The
mp3 decoder was implemented into AUT - MP using the XAudio license and code
library. You won't have to start winamp before you enter the game and then
alt-tab back to windows to change to skip a song or lower/raise the volume.
By simply hitting a key you'll get to the soundtrack menu, there you just
jump to certain songs, change volumes or add your own songs to the ingame
playlist, without ever leaving the game and taking the risk to stand there
for some 10 seconds without being able to defend yourself.
Related to models, animation and overall size of AUT - MP once it'll be
available for download, of course UT's skeletal animation system is being
used. That'll keep the amount of files and their size down to a minimum
(compare Q3A models to HL models to see the difference in filesize) and lets
us implement more gimmicks instead without sacrificing the modemers' nerves
and money. Of course they also look and animate really fancy. For those of
you who were complaining about not enough details in the guns' skins, they
have double the size and of course twice as much detail now. We're also
using Maxon's Bodypaint3D as of recently, so be prepared to see a good deal
of high quality visuals in AUT - MP.
In regards to gameplay, in AUT - MP you'll be able to make more use of your
player's two hands than you were in the past. Gun combinations that haven't
been possible so far, are available now. This only is limited by the
properties of the respective gun and of course affects the accuracy big
time. For example, when drawing your pistol while holding a sniper rifle in
the main hand you can only fire one more, very inaccurate and of course
unzoomed shot with the sniper rifle. To reload either of both weapons you'll
have to drop or holster the other. Thats different for pistols, you can hold
these akimbo and reload them just like you're used to it. This should give
you a good bunch of additional immersion, since you now can defend yourself
if the player is standing really close to you and when aiming hardly is to
be taken into consideration, although when you're out in the open and are
playing with your guns, it could very well happen that someone can empty an
entire clip on you before you're even ready to fire back.
The last feature might interest those of you who play AHL particularly.
AUT - Magnum Philosophy, too, supports replacement models. The only
difference is, the tool to manage the replacement model selection and
installation will be implemented right into AUT - MP, so there is no need
for any seperate software. Haven o' Frags will be your source for
replacement content again. One thing we'd advise you to do however, is not
to start doing replacement models yet, and wait until we were able to
release detailed specs for replacement models, or you will very likely end
up having done a lot of work just to find out later on that you have to redo everything again.
