Here are brief instructions:

You need DEMTOOL available at http://www.planetquake.com/qdq/demtool.hmtl

Put "cachefix.bsp" in your "id1/maps" directory.
Attaching the three blocks of cachefix.dem to the front of all the
demos you want to play will then solve the "Cache_Alloc" problem.
Others may prefer to do this with some other demo utility, but the
easiest way to fix for your demo is "demtool -hcachefix yourdemo".

This is a very ugly solution, because it clears all models from the
cache between demo loads, thus making the caching system useless.
If you use it, I advise running demtool's sister program "reduce"
on each of your demos BEFORE you fix them, to eliminate all unnecessary
model caches from each demo.
And if you don't find the "Cache_Alloc" problem occurs with your particular
demos, I wouldn't bother using the fix as a "just in case" safety device.
A better solution, if you can manage it, is to avoid using sprites
at all in your demos.
