a friend wanted to see what the f3 graphics were like, so I jumped into
Instant Action and flew around a bit, ending up high over the Tu 22's.
Dived past them about 600 knots, having hit all 3 and watched them dump their
bomb loads .... somehow someone got a missile on me, and I ejected at the bare
minimum ht for a successful ejection. Floating down a couple of hundred feet
off the ground, I'm showing my friend how to rotate the view when all these
green objects streak past me .... and then boom, concussion waves, debris
all over the place and game over ....somehow I must have beaten the jettisoned
bombs to the ground but in the same place they were
heading.....

never been killed like that before ....

Subject: What is the way to attack an armour column>?

In the FalcCalc v.2.51 documentation, it says that you can change the
flight route of the B52's, and that you can direct armor columns to
attack. I'd love to direct them to break through and harass the rear
areas!

So how do you do it? I just sent off my registration to
74650.746@compuserve.com but neglected to ask this <blush>
I'm running a campaign in Israel and at Dakweh NDB there are over 40
units. (Yes I went over and counted them all <G>) Problem is that Dakweh
is adjacent to 3 or 4 of my targets who have 3 to 9 units.. Instant
death. So I figure if I can knock out Dakweh, we can maybe take it and
break through......

Any ideas? (And Yes I know this won't get in till Tuesday <G>

Subject: How to make WINGMEN avoid SA-7?

I have read the thread about avoiding sams and especially SA-7.
But how to keep the wingmen from running into them?

I had a ground support mission, where I set one major strike flight,
one two plane CAP and then one pair of wild weasels.
I falccalculated everything exactly: Cap arrived a few seconds before the
SEAD-team, and in less than 20 seconds the main strike force was pounding
enemy tanks. Everything went fine, cap took out 4 Mig-23s and sead blasted
the two shilkas found. And then the air was filled with mavericks.

But when the sa-7 seven squads situationed on the small hills openen fire
I lost two planes. And the sead team hadn't (and couldn't) suppress those.

Is there any way to avoid these? Or are they the unavoidable casualties
of war? I think that if I had arrived with the main force just seconds
after the sead, and then used CBUs to kill the armed ground forces, we might
had have change to kill the tanks without a problem. but it turned out to be
not so...
Suggestions?

Subject: CAS Mission at Front - Help needed

I've recently started spinning off flights wherever possible to help
things at the front (thanks to FALCCALC). But I'm only 1 for 3 in my
attempts to find the enemy positions. They don't show in recon, and in 2 of
the 3 missions I couldn't find any during the flight either. The one time
I found the enemy I was successful in reducing their numbers, and ended up
taking the position, but lost one of the others despite 4 successful
missions. The day went like this:

day 4 0600 - Intercept the 2 TU22's .... Give this one to 2 computer
flights, I take off with 2 flights to help out at Kimpo, where FALCCALC
says the allies are outnumbered. I made a mistake and assigned 2 of the 4
planes to a separate computer flight - when we got there the enemy was
about 10 miles north of the waypoint, and the computer flight gave up and
went home. The enemy 'appeared' after we overflew them (pretty much as
Bill says in the docs), and we turned around and engaged. My wingman and I
got a pretty good bag and we ended up taking Kimpo at the end of the day.

1200 - Defensive screen. Since I was bound to lose this anyway (I
never successfully complete these..), I again sent out 2 computer flights
to do the screen, and I set out with 4 planes (in just one flight this
time) to help out at Hoengsong. But I never saw any enemy. Spent 10 minutes
flying around at 500 feet trying to wake them up, but not a dogone thing.
Ended up going north and taking out the radar installation 20 mi. N.
FALCCALC reported the enemy strength undiminished at the end of the
mission, and to throw salt on the wound, my two computer flights
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE DEFENSIVE SCREEN!!. Maybe next time I'll just
sit on the runway..

      1800 - Escort B52's.... F3 is throwing in 2 F15's for free, so I once
again take off for the 3rd of 3 listed hotpoints, Samcheog. Nope, no joy on
the NK's. End up working over the airbase to the N.

2300 - Another intercept. I don't feel up to trying to ID
hostiles/friendlies at night, so we just do the main mission (anybody out
there try to run S&D or CAS at night?).

All 4 missions were successful, but although we pick up two positions
(Kimpo is one), we lose Samcheog.

Anybody have any better luck doing this?

Regards;

Pete Williams

Subject: Falcon3 hanging

Does anyone else find this...

Sometimes I run Falcon3 in IA mode with auto-pilot, just as background
while I work at my desk. On occasion (about 1 in 5 times) the
system grinds to a halt where even (Ctrl+Alt+Del) will not reset.
The display is frozen with no way to recover (the display will be
a frozen cockpit frame). If I run in non-IA the probabilty of failure
is considerably less, perhaps because I don't survive as long as
	the auto-pilot :-/

The facts:

DOS 6.0 (although this happened under 5.o as well)
	386 @ 33 Mhz
	387
	32 Mb RAM
	2-105 Mb	SCSI drives
1 Mb video	ATI Wonder card
	Soundblaster
	MS Mouse

	EMM386 w/ 2Mb of EMS emulated memory

Observations:

It seems to be related to EMS usage.

On a different note, if I run Turbo C/C++ for DOS (v3.0) which uses
DPMI after F3, it (Turbo C/C++) hangs.

I was wondering why Falcon had Spectrum Holob./Micropros [1005]
as publisher. Why microprose??

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what "Alpha Mike Foxtrot" and "Watch the Canopy when you
punch out Jack" mean. I can't seem to find these in the manual.

[ Watch the canopy is a quote from Top Gun I think...
The other is slang for AMF, or Adios Mother F*cker. -Jeff ]

Also, does the difficulty setting in OFT have any affect on the types of
missions that are given out. I am playing at Easy level (I know, I know)
and I get boring Defensive screen missions practically every other mission.
Is there a connection? Thanks for any info.
