I started to read some news, it seems to me that I haven`t the last version 3.0e so I wish to know how to get it. Should I ask it directly to SH ? In that case, I would like to obtain an e-mail or fax address to ask to, since I live in Italy, I`m unable to reach the on-line services offered. Moreover, I want to buy OFT, but it`s difficult to find it, if someone knows a Company ( in USA or better in Europe ) that accepts postal orders payable with credit card... Speaking about Falcon ( I have only a few hours of experience ), I`ve noticed two things: a) in the manual there is no indication about the trim setting ( the old Falcon had that option, used mainly for landing and strafing runs ), nor there are trim indicators in the cockpit b) Seeing a mission badly finished ( crashed shortly after the runaway my plane stalled due to the heavy load, engine 80% mil...) I noticed that the survivor planes landed at the end without landing gear, suppose it`s a bug Thanks in advance... It never fails, I get an incredibly long-range mission to bomb something and I have to either remove ECM pod or a hardpoint's stores to get the fuel just to go to the target! My bombing isn't what it should be so one pass usually isn't enough!! I know this one is in the top of most people but I'll throw my vote in in case SH is taking the numbers: improved mission planning. What I've read so far sounds like what I'm looking for so I'll not ramble on. The next biggest thing I would like to see is contact with other flights. Not just MY other flights either! So many times I see the F-18 (or whatever) CAP turn away and then I see enemy planes over the target. It would be REALLY nice to be able to be able to tell/ask :^) them to go back. Along those same lines, it would be nice to be able to ask for help when you've gotten in over your head! i.e. you know there are friendlies about, your wingmen have been shot down, and you've got three MIGs to deal with! I think that about covers my biggest wishes. I hope SH is paying attention (as they usually do) and at least address the points made by me and everyone else. It's been my experience so far that SH does pay attention! And more so than any other software company I've heard of. Keep up the good work!!! I used to say this would be completely useless, since there are normally way too many ground targets in visual range, but then I had an idea. If you break the terrain up into a grid (conceptually) and allow the user to jump between looking at only the grid squares which contain ground units, then it would be practical and very useful. Other ways of grouping ground targets could also be used, but this one seems cheap to implement. > If SH fixes the look-through-your-own-plane-bug this is not absolutely > required since the funnel etc. will work as advertised then. The biggest problem with the current padlock view. IMO, they sacrificed too much realism in this case to get playability, but ended up making the game LESS playable! >- Maybe add a key to fix your eyes on the spot (mostly on the ground) > you happened to look at when you pressed the button. A brilliant idea. This is exactly how Strike Commander's padlock view works. It would be an even better match for F3's padlock view system since you can read the HUD in F3 (unlike in SC) and the default front view you flip in and out of could be the Scroll Lock HUD-only view so it would lock more readily and allow the widest possible view. Perhaps toggling to the normal front view could be made an option, but it would cause the HUD to jump to a new place and would not look fluid. I read on another newsgroup that someone who was a registered owner of f3 had received a notice from SH about the Mig 29 add on, and was offered a special introductory price since they were a registered owner. (cant remember the amounts but it was about 15 bucks off the suggested retail). I never received anything. Did anyone here get something from them? - -- __________________________________________________________ | Brad White | | | white@watsci.uwaterloo.edu | | ---------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- From: Jeff Duvall Subject: Falcon weapons loads... I was thumbing through my copy of Modern Air Combat, and I noticed something when I was reading about the F-16. It's maximum combat load is roughly 20,000 lbs. And I'm pretty sure that's with a full load of fuel. I'll have to check again, but it seems that this might be a major boo-boo in SH's modeling of the F-16. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Jeff DuVall | University of Washington, Seattle, Washington (O) Internet: mirage@u.washington.edu X--------<_._>--------X Phone: (206) 528-4660 @@ (___) @@ F-16 Fighting Falcon --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- From: "Joel T. It would be nice to be able to see a bit more than just 'eyes forward-no peripheral'. I place my vote for this method of enhancing the padlock. To throw around another idea, what about some sort of intelligent AWACS? I'd like one kinda like you find in F15-SEIII, it gives you a 'picture' of the nearest bogy which includes their range and bearing from your plane. Also how 'bout a less twitchy Hi-Fi joystick mode, maybe a software implementation of the real stick (ie: closer to center, less roll, farther from center greater roll-both in more graduated steps than now)? I think the 17 lb. pull generated would be a bit hard to implement with software though :) > Jim Knutson | | > knutson@mcc.com --=oOo=-- > cs.utexas.edu!milano!knutson + > Wk: (512) 338-3362 Check Six! > +---------------------------------------+-------------------------------------+ | Joel T Jameson | "But when I left it wasn't | | INTERNET: Joel.T.Jameson@uwrf.edu | scrambled like that?!?!?" | | TELE: (715) 426-5503 | -Myself, returning from lunch | +---------------------------------------+-------------------------------------+ ------------------------------- From: MORGAN@WVUGEO.WVNET.EDU Subject: Re: SH Mig 29 discount Brad White asked about an SH flier advertising Mig 29 at a discount price. Yes I received that flier. It was actually a large flier with screen shots, hype, and the like. The discount price is 39.88 for registered F3 owners. Actually, aside from what turns out to be a decent policy by SH (advance orders get it before stores) there really is no reason to buy direct. Everything I have seen for discount direct from any publisher has been the same price or less at a retail store. For what it is worth, I spoke with Debbie at SH today (I have to be home to recieve deliveries :-( ) Apparently all 2500 Mig 29's were sent out on Wed the 28 for direct orders. Lets see, 40 * 2500 = 60,000 +/- Not bad, I guess. I found it really annoying that they had the breakdown for sound as follows: Music/Sound Effects Voices I *hate* the sound effects from my Roland! Barf! The sidewinder howl from the roland sounds like somebody is swinging a cat over my head! And, of course, the music from the sound blaster is pretty bad. Perhaps they just did a bad job of sound effects on the Roland. Other games sound great on it. Anyways, I realize the background music durring mission setup is just sugar, but I enjoy it and if they're going to do it, they ought to do it right! ~C ------------------------------- From: Michael Walker Subject: Invisible power plants in India... Has anyone attempted to bomb the power plant in India, (which from the icon should be nuclear?). I was setting up a flight in RFM and when I went to target it zoomed in and swung around a big brown piece of dirt. When I flew the mission it still wasn't there. There are supposed to be 3 different sites, and when selecting each of the three, I got three different patches of sand. There are some buildings in the area, but none look anything like power plants, and are not identified as targets. Is this a bug?
