My records list you as 5 weeks from postmark to time of mailing. I wish I could have gotton to you sooner, but my own disorganization was primarily the cause of delay. Also, I had problems with several returned checks so I had to wait until each check cleared before mailing. However ther were several days delay due purely to my own lazinerss. I hope My code provided you with some amusement, and thank you for registering. I admitt , I have been reading some of your previous post and am impressesed with your work, especially with the *.mis files wich hold much promise for futher exploitation. I am currently working on a GUI based program for userers who wish to create their own scenario's for currently available theaters. Hope I can contribute to this collection of falconers. have some code I am planning to upload to this area. Was even thinking of maybe, even thinking of uploading My version of Bosnia freeware now that SH has theirs out. But that depends on how you registered users feel about it. It is also the source of one of HORNET's bugs. They used the same "engine" in HORNET. So... You can land on the water!!! > > My problem is mainly trying to get the angle of attack high enough without > stalling. > The plane seems have very unstable pitch and horizontal velocity at low > speeds (as you might expect ;-). The speed I aim for is 150-200 knots. With flaps & gear extended I think the AOA is almost automatic with the 150-200 knot speed. I did a series of touch & go landings until I got the hang of low speed/high AOA flying. The one thing falcon does well here, is the throttle will adjust the altitude, and the elevator will adjust the speed. > > When landing is there an optimum speed, decent ratio, throttle setting and > flap/brake setting for weight (like the cards on a commercial jet). > I use about 40% throttle with flaps and end up with the speed just below 150 > knots > on my final decent. > > On another note. Ch's throttle control is rumored to be the slider variety. Not very realistic according the "Mr. Ed", but that is what they have :-) Greg Cisko ------------------------------- From: Kevin Franden Subject: WCSmk2 + FCS Hello fellow viper drivers! I have recently taken the (financially suicidal) plunge and gotten an PFSC and a WCSmk2. After only a few minutes on it I can see clearly that it has the makings of somthing great. Couple of WCSmk2 questions to those who might know: + Does someone have a config file that they espescially like? I tried the stock falcon3.adv one and it didn't knock me out of my socks. + Throttle settings. Do you recommend the digital or analog throttle? + I had a little trouble with the throttle. First, I could not get the digital throttle to work. If you have gotten it to work and you like it, let me know how you got it to work. Also, The stock falcon3.adv file sets the throttle "throw" to 25 units. I counted 45 with the keyboard but was wondering if someone with more "real world" experience can suggest somthing. Also, Are there any EB warriors in the K.C. metro area? I'd like to fly with/against a real person if there are any near by (I'll call Lawrence too!) I agree with you that I would have expected >damage from some of my 'good' landings. Absolutely. I basically just slam the plane onto the pavement so I don't have to fight the horrendous low speed flight model. MiG-29 and Hornet: NSF allow for much smoother landings than F3, but they still allow you to COLLIDE with the ground at ridiculous descent rates without any ill effects. For a realistic treatment of survivable descent rates you must look elsewhere. SVGA Harrier is quite good, and Tornado is the best. Tornado considers the ENERGY that the undercarriage (when in Rome...) must withstand. That means the heavier your plane is, the smaller the sink rate must be to prevent undercarriage collapse on touchdown. It's been a while, but I think with a heavy load the maximum safe sink rate is 4 fps, or 240 fpm. Hamfisted jet jocks need not apply. Even with a light load I think the maximum is on the order of 600 fpm. You can land on any flatish surface in Falcon (and the rest of the Electronic Battlefield Series). I also have trouble getting what I would call a smooth landing but remember, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing :+) > On another note. As I posted to this list a few weeks ago, I'm experimenting with building a throttle and rudder set. The rudder is working quite nicley now, but I think I've got some wiring problem with the throttle 'cos, when I test it, it's output value stays at zero. What makes me suspect my wiring is that the position of the throttle slider seems to affect the output value for the rudder by a few units (3 ish). When I finally get it sussed, I'll post a complete summary to the list, wiring diagram and all Cheers Tony "Claymore" Rowan tr@jet.uk JET Joint European Torus ------- End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------- From: Noel Ang Subject: On Landing Robert Fowler's question RE Landing yesterday has spurred me to ask because, though I haven't had any problems landing, landing 'by the book' seems pretty weird. I've pretty much ignored the glidescope on final (until recently) because I usually make a smoother job without it. It seems to me that the AOA indexer's idea of a good angle is somewhere at 150 knots with the velocity vector marker GONE from your HUD. So, okay, I said fine and gave it a try. It worked, but the runaway came up so fast I felt like I was going to crash. I was at least 1000' at 1 mile out, which makes it more unnatural--the runaway was a teeny weeny strip down there, and I was coming down toward it like a rock. Is this natural? Is the flight model behaving like it should be in these parameters (150 knots, with the AOA indexer just right)? Noel ------------------------------- From: darryl.slywchuk@onlinesys.com (Darryl Slywchuk) Subject: Errors in F3.04 update I just received update F3.04 and attempted to install it. The previous version I was using was F3.03 and Mig29(1.03). Everything was proceeding fine, when an error message appeared: "Applying MODIFY file patch for NELLIS.MSC Error ept0036: Old file not found. File of same name found. No update since file contents dont't match." The rest of the upate seemed to go okay. I've flown a couple of times since in IA, and a couple of missions, and they fly fine. I hope the problem is restricted to the Nellis scenario. I sent a note to SH online at Compuserve, and got a reply instructing me to reload F3.0, OFT, MIG29, F3.04, and MIG29(1.03) in that order, without using any other patches. I did, and got the same error. Has anyone else run into this? Found any fixes? Would certainly appreciate a reply by e-mail, since I don't have regular access to this conference. darryl.slywchuk@onlinesys.com ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 5 : Issue 84 ]]
