Hello,

this seems to be another sound-problem of F3 (3.01.1). Because of a hit (#*@%!) my gun was damaged. After downing that Mig :-) with my last AIM 9P the "search-
sound" of the missile remained although I switched over to the (non-working) 
gun and A-G-Stores. It even stayed as I ended the mission and left F3 
completely. 
By the way, I'm using a Soundblaster 2.5 and turned the music off in the System
Settings.

Well, having been a lurker in this group for few months I finally feel
compelled to speak.

The only reason I read ...pc.games was to get the scoop on F3.  Since
I discovered this mailing list I've been in hog heaven.  Now I don't have
to wade through all 450+ messages from that newsgroup (that seems to have an
abnormally high signal to noise ratio).   Getting all of the falcon stuff in 
digest form has been WONDERFUL.  All condensed and everything.  No muss or
fuss.

One thing I've noticed about the newsgroup is that there are TONS of games
that are played by TONS of people with each person having TONS of opinions.
I really consider it valuble to have other peoples input _on various F3 
topics_.  I point to the recent discussion we had on landings; many people 
threw their $0.02 in and I got alot out of it (I still end up stuffing it 
about 100 yards before the strip or on the last 10' of the strip but I am 
getting better).

I think that it's very useful having a tight focus on this list.  My opinion 
is that it would be detrimental to the QUALITY of this list to try to 
increas the QUANTITY of articles.  I wait with impatiently for each morning
knowing that I will be delivered _only_ F3 material.  Newspapers don't put
the sports articles in with the rest of world events or money because 
people interested in sports want to pull out that one section and read
just about sports... to extend that, they group baseball articles and even 
box scores; likewise with world events, local events, want adds, and the like.
The point is that it's organized and delivered to your door.

Anyway, I've babbled enough.  Check six.

The mission selection feature was discovered in Sep last year.  You can
get it by selecting the Kurile Islands as your theater, then "In the
war room, click (and hold briefly) on the guy in the white shirt.  You
should see "Yes Sir" displayed on the screen."  Then COMMIT to that
campaign.

This info came from Prodigy to Fidonet and finally to us via Rick
Emerson.

By the way, I found this info in the falcon3 wais library.

stick my vote in for SH's Electronic Battlefield only .... it
Falcon3.0 so far, Mig 29 June, A 10 later. Adding 'games' like
AOTP and SC will turn this great technical group into another
c.s.i.p.g and most of us are here because we wanted to get away from
that.

there I was .... mucking about in Red Flag (think I mapped it to somewhere
else like Kuwait or Israel, mostly desert), done my little assigned mission,
headed for the nearest airfield, turns out it had been overrun and I got shot
at as I lined up for the approach. Max Afterburners and dived for the deck
and as I overflew the runway, I noticed a SAM site with a bunch of enemy
infantry around it. To my enormous suprise, the radar dish
suddenly blew up, and the men scattered, running in every direction ....

I have seen the Covox Voice(speech?)Blaster add-on for Soundblaser compatable
cards.  Has anyone tried to use this with Falcon?  It seems like saying
"Break Left" instead of using the keyboard would be a MAJOR plus for realism
and effectiveness of wingmen...

Subject: Spectrum Hologram, charter, FAQ, etc

I got a mailer from SH today, called the Spectrum Hologram. Interestingly 
enough, they sent my wife one, too...guess that's what she gets for letting
me use her CREDIT CARD to MAIL ORDER PC GAMES!! 

Anyway, the mailer has a few items of note that I thought I'd pass
on to the list. It appears that the official name of the MiG-29 add-on product
is "MiG-29: Deadly Adversary of Falcon 3.0". They continue to expect a 
mid-1993 release, although I have my doubts, albeit solely based on the fact 
that the adverts in the April game mags make no mention of the product, and 
they typically pre-advertise releases at least 4-6 months in advance. Hope 
I'm wrong, of course, but if I'm right, I'd rather SH (or any other game 
company) take the time they need to ready a product for market than release 
it prematurely. Either way, my sweetie's credit card will be ready ;-)

The Spectrum Hologram also mentions that patch E is available, and that
registered owners may leave a message at 510-522-1164 with name, address,
phone number, product name, serial number, and disk size for an upgrade disk
by mail. Since I've seen no other reference to patch E being available to F3
end-users, a disclaimer is in order: I can't personally confirm that patch E 
is ready to ship, only that the mailer claims that it is "available", whatever
that means.

They also estimate Tornado will be released mid-1993, and will include a 
head-to-head play option. 

Scheduled for a mid-year release is the Fighter Air Combat Trainer.
This is their combination videotape, floppy disk, and workbook designed
to "instruct sim fliers in air combat techniques and strategy". FACT is
hosted by Phil Handley, a retired USAF colonel, and includes BFM lessons from
Pete Bonanni, whom you guys know from his participation in the F3 user
manual, as well as his book, Falcon 3.0 Air Combat. The hour-long videotape 
demonstrates BFMs using F3 recordings, while the workbook is structured to 
support the video. 

It appears that SH is selling Robert Shaw's Fighter Combat:Tactics and 
Maneuvering for $32.95. (I thought it was only available from USNI...Is 
this a competitive price?)
 
Finally, I hope to have a FAQ ready by the time Jeff gets back from his 
vacation, and it would be great to have a charter to put on top of
it. Our FAQ will look mighty good on the new csipg.flight-sim USENET group...
It has been requested that I include information on how to make F3 and 
Stacker, and F3/DOS 6.0 co-exist. Since I don't own Stacker or DOS 6, I 
don't know how to do this, nor would I be able to identify a "definitive 
post" on the subject from looking at archived digests. If anyone cares to 
write up a definitive post on either of these and send it to me at the address 
listed above, I'll include it in the FAQ and millions of newbies will be
grateful.

It's also been suggested that I add a reference in the FAQ to FalcCalc, a 
mission planning utility located on Compuserve's FSFORUM. I've never seen
it, and I'd like to check it out beforehand...does anyone know where I can 
get a copy on the INTERNET?
