Chak-Yoon Aw Subject: Dumb wingmen?? After reading Jim Knutson's account in the digest today, I just had to post this. I am currently flying a campaign in Kuwait, day 5, and the mission was to bomb some control command center. Everything went well until we started home. My wingmen were running low on fuel (I was playing with unlimited fuel.....OK, OK I'm a wimp!) and so I sent them home with the Shift-H command. About halfway home they were jumped by a Mig-19 and Mig-29. They started yelling "Bandit! Bandit!" but did nothing! One was hit by a Magic immediately but the strage thing was, none of them engaged! They just kept on flying in a straight line. Observing them in wingman view showed the Migs weaving in and out of their formation. Unfortunately I had gone winchester and could not do much about it. I turned on the Mig-19 and wounded him with my cannon. He bugged out and I don't know what happened to the Mig-29. I thought that computer pilots will engage if attacked? Is this not true? The mission was successful but I lost a plane.....sigh! I hope SH have improved this in their impending Mig-29 release. On a related thread, after upgrading to OFT, I noticed that my wingman does not always inform me when he is Winchester - I checked this out in 3.0d and he told me every time - any ideas? Unzipping Falccalc 2.51 Michael are you using version 110 of pkunzip?, the error message you received is consistent with that displayed by version 110 when attempting to unzip a file compressed with version 2.0 of pkzip. Pkzip is currently at version 2.0g. ATI Graphics Card I also have a Mach32 Graphics Ultra Accelerator - the good news is that the VGA emulation on this card is pretty quick. To get the best from it in VGA mode, assuming it is an ISA bus variant, make sure the bus is set to 16 bit access. If you want to try using it full screen under Windows (not recommended by SH incidentally, due to possible incompatibility) you're gonna have to play around with PIF settings, the new Multimedia Video Beta Drivers are also a good idea as they're alot quicker than the 1.59 release. I don't know if the accelerator chip is even used to support a full screen DOS process and I haven't heard anything about any of the entertainment software publishers developing drivers to take advantage of the graphics accelerators, though the idea seems feasible. ------------------------------- From: James L. Waletzky Subject: OFT Joystick Problems Hi all, I just upgraded my system from a 386 to a 486DX2-66 and I am now having some problems with my Advanced Gravis joystick and falcon. I was running patch D on my 386 and it worked just fine (using the game port on my SB Pro). Now, with my 486 I have an IO card with a game port built in so I figured I would use that instead and disable the game card on the SB Pro. That had the effect of bizzare happenings when playing falcon (other games don't seem to be affected). Firstly, when I do a joystick calibration, falcon tells me that it has detected rudder pedals and a throttle control - huh!?!?! I don't have either of these. Then when I start flying the simulator behaves like the joystick buttons are constantly being pressed and released, the air brakes are engaged and disengaged and my weapons continually alternate between A-A and A-G modes. By the way, I went back to the game port on the SB and the same effect still existed. Anyone know what the problem is? I have since upgraded to OFT to get the new campaigns and the same problem exists. [[ I've had problems with disabling the game port on my SB. Strike Commander doesn't work, for example. When you went back to the SB for the joystick port, did you remove the other IO card? Just a suggestion. Best of luck! -Jeff ]] Any help would be appreciated. James. ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 3 : Issue 49 ]]
