One of the things he mentioned and I replied to was the weapons modeling. In instant action tonight, at the beginning, a launched 7 Aim9's, not one of them hit. I am using medium weapons effectiveness. The guns are very acceptable. I am considering changing to high weapons efectiveness. What are all the thoughts out there? What does everyone else use? Am I selling out to the sim? After hearing of the success pilots have had with real weapons (Wings, etc) it seems that A) the weapons are modeled to reflect less than their real abilities, or B) the bad'uns are modeled to highly in their ability to spoof them. Ay ideas on that> Regarding the gun sight and breaking radar lock so the Hornet site is worse than that of say the Mig or F16. I too have seen the irritating radr lock/delock that makes aiming hard. My question is (for all you technical people) wouldn't enemy ECM at such a close distance be useless? With a large hunk of metal less than 1miles away, I would think the radar could easily burn through ECm lickity split. If not, with the signals being emitted by the ECM, could the radar (or even a radio receiver) be tuned to lock on the emissions from an ECM source? I am using Vet Opponents right now (stop that laughing! ;) I like to think that you configure a sim/game to the way YOU like it. I would like mine to be realistic. What dies everyone use to reflect the most realistic environment? Check your drink! I didn't intend to imply that I didn't like the hornet sight. In fact I do. I just don't use it much. I think the gun funnel on the viper is calibrated for this... The bullets will hit the point of the funnel at a given distance (.5 miles I think). So... If your "worthy opponant" (tm) is closer or further away, you need to make adjustments accordingly. Presumebly the HORNET with a radar lock makes the adjustment for you. Once the lock is broken & you go back to your (WWII style) sight, all bets are off. > From: MORGAN@WVUGEO.WVNET.EDU > Subject: Re: Harrier, Hornet > the Tm-stick program, my FCS, and Hornet. What the hell is with this??? The carrier is invulnerable? WoW! Like there wouldn't be some TOMCATS up there flaming those MiG27's?? No one, (who doesn't belong there) is supposed to be within a certain distance of the carrier. What is that distance? 100 miles?? How close could we really get in the Kurlies? Before the Adm. K. started launching billions of inter- ceptors. I would think that the carrier group associated with the NSF could so the same. Sheesh! Greg JAGUAR Cisko ------------------------------- From: lmbain@netcom.com (Larry Bain) Subject: Hornet Patch on ONION.RAIN.COM I have just uploaded Spectrum Holobytes 'Hornet Patch'(es) to the Falcon3 archives on ONION.RAIN.COM: f304.zip - Falcon3.0 ver. 3.04 update m103.zip - MIG29 " 1.03 " h101.zip - Hornet F/A-18 " 1.01 " The files were deposited in /PUB/FALCON3/INCOMING but they will soon migrate to /PUB/FALCON3/PROGRAMS. According to the readme.txt(s), the updates include: - general bug fixes to all programs - joystick routine fixes; *incorporation of the TM-STICK* routines into the .exe(s), plus a compatible tm-stick ver 2 tsr for those who want to retain explicit control over the deadzone parameters. - a MIG 29 'G-Damage' Limiter - an improved ILS system for the Hornet - other stuff Humble thanks from this Falcon enthusiast go to Spectrum H. for following through on their product releases and to Thrustmaster and Ken 'Stinger' Richardson for their EBS salvation, in the form of TM-STICK. -Larry Bain Mt. View, CA ------------------------------- From: Michael_E_LEBRUN@umail.umd.edu (ml87) Subject: Hornet v1.01 patch and updated utilities. First, I really am enjoying the Hornet NSF add-on. I like the differences in flight model from the Viper, but I have to keep reminding myself that it flys differently. The not so subtle reminders of the Mig29 are not present fit the Hornet. I am wondering if anyone knows the release date for the v1.01 patch for Hornet. Second, I just received the upgrade chip for my TM WCS Mk II and love the new flexibility in programming the functions. What caught my eye, however, is the variety of utility programs included for F3 and Mig29. Do others of you use the F3 Padlock utilities and are they useful? Also, the versions I recieved are for Falcon v3.02 rather than v3.03. Will these work with the V3.03 or must I wait for the new version of the utilities? Are the new versions of the utilities available at an FTP site? Thanks, Michael "Dragon" Lebrun ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 5 : Issue 64 ]]
