(Most of my ideas are like dandruff: Off the top of the head, small and flaky :) First, I have tried flying in the padlock mode. Its definitely going to take some getting used to... I wish (hint hint, SH) there was a mode where a pilot could program which views he/she wishes to view and for how long. For instance, I would like to spend maybe 3 to 5 seconds scanning the canopy for other aircraft then pop back to my forward view to check out my radar display. Of course, if something came into view, padlock would automatically lock up on it... Its a rough draft of an idea, and I will probably get a firmer grasp of what I'm looking for with more flying. The other thing is that last night I taped Wings on Discovery. And it was one I had never seen (which was a surprise to me...) I taped it because it was the F-16... They were going into some detail on the capabilities of the F-16, and they did a piece on the cockpit. Is SH planning on updating the game to more accurately reflect the dissimilarities of the game interface to the the "real deal"? For instance the dual MFDs and the ground mapping radar. Always the realism junkey, --Storm ------------------------------- From: slb512@serveru1.naic.wpafb.af.mil (stuart butts/taai/75033) Subject: Re: Suggestions for Falcon > From: Brad Alexander > Subject: Suggestions for Falcon > To: falcon3@onion.rain.com > > The other thing is that last night I taped Wings on Discovery. I believe F4 is to be the F-16C, but I don't know which block. - Stuart ------------------------------- From: JOHANSSON@gemini.ldc.lu.se Subject: Falcon 3.04 and Network Hi all Falconers, Yesterday we noticed that EMM386 (DOS 6.20) with option HIGHSCAN didn't work in network play, but without that option it worked just fine over network [and YES with only IPX.COM loaded, someone asked this earlier]. Seems that SH have worked a bit on the network code. We where just 2 players and for the most it worked as it should (prior attempts with earlier versions used to end in frustration), we had only two "hangings" in approx 10 hours intense WAR with the RED's... Next time it is a rainy weekend here in Southern Sweden we should try with 4 players and this time we are going to crush IVAN early.... ;-) Just wanted to let you know... /Christer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ * Christer Johansson - HTH - * InterNet : johansson@gemini.ldc.lu.se * ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- From: jimc@math.ucla.edu Subject: Good news from the front Republican Guard Base 2 lies in smoking ruins. Here's a brief summary. First, as air cover I stayed well away from the target area; the enemy air cover was engaged BVR. This apparently prevented the SA-6's from being revealed, even though I switched to wingman view (of a plane in my flight, near me, who couldn't have seen them). Perhaps if I had switched to a view from a SEAD plane, the SA-6's would have appeared. I will try this again when relevant, but I'm glad the experiment failed. This is with Falcon 3.04. The SEAD planes' speeds were calculated so that they arrived at the target simultaneously, just before the Kfirs, from three directions. They destroyed all the ZSU-23's and D-30's, and all but two SA-7's. Nonetheless, one Falcon was shot down by a D-30, and at least one SA-7 was launched. Three of four Kfirs were lost (fortunately not on my budget), apparently in landing accidents since they were in the air on approach to King Khalid. We hit one BMP-1; the Maverick was probably supposed to have hit a SA-7. Previously I complained that SEAD pilots fired on G-155's. It turns out that those were D-30's, and were definitely relevant AA weapons. Enemy air losses: 1 Mig-29, 2 Su-27, 4 Mirage-F1, 1 Mig-21, 2 Mig-19, 1 Mirage-3, 1 An-12. Two pilots got medals; I got the purple heart due to a stupid landing. To get through this gantlet it was important to use the HFR (I couldn't have done it with SAM), to lead my flight close enough to the enemy that they would engage, but then to promptly locate the SEAD planes and Kfirs and to race back to them while the wing people were finishing off the enemy. No glory for the leader. Fortunately this time we didn't get jumped from behind on the outbound leg; in previous attempts when this happened I couldn't get back to the SEAD planes fast enough, and the target air cover got them. Onward to greater victories (but check six)! James F.
