I just started Tornado and am consistently going long on the laydown method.
This occurs with both retard and non-retard bombing, and somethims with the
runway denial stuff too. Why does this happen if the delivery is supposed to be
acturately computer controlled? How do I deal with it?

Thanks!

Subject: FST Demo uploaded

Hi all,

I have uploaded "Joerg's Flight-sim V1.0" to neon. It can be found in
/pub/hitech-sim/fst (right, Jeff?).

For running it, you need at least the files fly1_0.zip and jfs1_0.zip.
If you have a SoundBlaster or 100% compatible soundcard you can also
download sounds.zip.

As I wrote in my previous posts, you shouldn't expect too much but I
think, it's not too bad for a beginner <g>.
Since we have "our personal flight-engeneer", I wanted Stuart to verify
the F-16 flight-model I designed. Unfortunately the files I sent him
got scrambled, so there was no possibility for him to take a look at
it. The flight-model, as it is implemented right now, makes the F-16
very hard to fly; if you are unconfident with it, you can edit the
file "f16.fmd" (don't forget to make a back-up first).

Here are some excerpts from the readme:

[...]

   I have created 3 different theatres that can take place in this world:

3.1 Airlines
============

    Always the same story <g>: The crew on board suffers from a disease and
    it is up to you to fly the bird.
    Depending on what menu item you choose you either have to fly from
    Airport 1 to Airport 2 or vice versa. From both airports starts a
    747 at approximately the same time you do; if you don't want to occupy
    yourself with IFR-navigation, just follow the Jumbo.
    If you want to use IFR, please refer to the file ifr.txt; there you will
    find all frequences.

3.2 Carrier Attack
==================

    Somehow a heavily defended carrier task-force has sneaked up to our
    coast. Intel reports that the last know location is about 50 km south
    of our Airfield 1.
    Your task is simple <g>: Take off from Airfield 1, head south and destroy
    the task force.

3.3 Ground Strike
=================

    Rebels/Russians/Drug-smugglers [chose your prefered evil] have captured
    one our Landing-Strip and with it a number of F-15s.
    The strip is located about 70km in the east of Airbase 1. One of our
    agents has managed to install a tiny radio beacon that transmits on
    NDB frequency 509.00 MHz.
    Your task is to find the strip, destroy all F-15s, ground-units and
    buildings *except* the tower where our agent has hidden.

3.4 Air Show
============

    This is my favourite one. It's Sunday and you decided to visit the air
    show. At the airfield, some folks do a race against the aircrafts with
    their cars. While you are watching them, the speakers announce that the
    owner of the ticket with number 4.5.67 has won a free ride in a Sopwith
    Camel. You take a closer look at your ticket and yes,
    you got that number...

4. Flight-Models
================

4.1 The Jet
===========

   The Jet is a two-engine propeller machine which is very forgiving with
   respect to pilot's mistakes. It has a maximum speed of 468 knots. Because
   of the low
   thrust/weight ratio the Jet requires a long runway and needs some time
   to react on the steering inputs.

4.2 The F-16
============

   Unfortunately it is not possible to simulate with FST a G-limiter like
   the real F-16 has. The consequence is that you will exceed the structural
   G-limit very often which causes the plane to disassemble itself in flight.
   Although I already reduced the power you should fly it very carefully.
   FST also does not know the difference between afterburner and ''dry''
   thrust. If you have set the power to 100% you are already in the 5th
   afterburner stage.
   All that leads to an ugly behaviour of the F-16, always keep
   an eye on your speed.

4.3 The Sopwith Camel
====================

   The Camel is one of the most famous aircrafts in WWI. It is a small
   biplane without airbrakes, flaps or retractable gear. The propeller
   engine can push the camel to a maximum speed of 151 knots. The
   undercarriage is very robust.

[...]

9. Credits
==========

   I want to thank Keir "Tao" Novik and Bernd "Bicycle Repair Man"
   Eggenstein for their suggestions.
   Special Thanks to Chera "Napalm" Bekker for Beta-testing and
   prove-reading.

10. ''Final Words''
==================

    Joerg's Flight-Sim V1.0 was created with the FLIGHT SIM TOOLKIT (FST),
    a fabulous program by Domark.

    During constructing, I discovered that designing was much more fun than
    flying in it. However, constructing was very time-intensive.
    I can honestly recommend buying FST, if you are willing to spend some
    time with it.

    The sim itself contains nothing spectacular and, to be honest, it is
    quite simplistic. (Here I should write: ''The best freeware-sim you've
    ever seen'' but I hate advertising <g>)
    However I plan to release ''patches'' in the future, which will add more
    features like new planes, improved flight-models, new scenarios and SVGA.

    I am very interested in your opinion about the scenarios I created.
    Please send me your impressions/suggestions/criticism via e-mail.
    Remember, if I don't get any feed-back I can't improve anything.

    Enjoy,
    Joerg "Dancer" Stenger                             stenger@tron.gun.de
