Heck, it's a slow site, here's what it says today (I'm sure they won't mind...). Looks like a cross between USNF and Tornado (does *that* make you drool or what?): --- NAVY STRIKE A MILITARY STRATEGY GAME SET IN A POST-COLD WAR WORLD Navy Strike is a game of task force command in a politically unstable and rapidly changing world. The threats to peace are predominantly regional but the stakes have greater consequences_as much political as military. As overall commander, the gamer is charged with the preparation and combat command of an allied task force, former Warsaw Pact and NATO. The Gold product is a real value because the two CD-ROMs contain added features including a 45-minute Lou Reda 1944 Across the Rhine video plus a scenario upgrade with seven new tank types and four new, division-based campaign packages. Navy Strike allows the gamer to experience many situations: Manage resources, the mission, planning and execution Deal with military action through realistic, politically shifting rules of engagement Access real time updates of command critical information through screen icons Combat chemical warfare in the Iraq-Kuwait and Libyan regional scenarios Game Specifications: Category: Strategy/Simulation Era: Modern day/Post-Cold War Format: MS-DOS 5.0 or higher Minimum Requirements: IBM-PC 386 or higher and most compatibles (486 recommended), 25MHz (33MHz recommended), 4MB RAM, 10MB hard disk space (15MB recommended), 2.5MB EMS, mouse, joystick required for flight, VGA/SVGA Supports: Sound Blaster_, other sound cards Navy Strike Slide Show Demo. Has anybody had success with this? Yes. You can copy the whole thing to your hard drive and run it from there (runs much smoother). >(2) Although the software is supposed to support the CH Flightstick >Pro,there seems to be no mention in the manual of what the additional >buttons are used for. Also, the analog throttle control does not >seem to function. Yes, I have selected "CH Flightstick Pro" in the >Preferences screen. I have had no problems using my stick in several >other flight sims. CH flightstick Pro works fine here, the additional buttons are: Left button: cycle air to air weapons right button: maneuver Flaps in/out middle button: Air Brakes/Thrust Reversers Coolie hat front and back seat for up and down and left and right view for left and right. This info was included in the Spectrum HoloByte version in the technical supplement. >(3) The manual is pretty skimpy, although what is there seems pretty >good. Gabe / SHI ------------------------------- From: Jack Morrison Subject: NEW PLANES for USNF! Want to fly the AV8 in US Navy Fighters? A-10, B-52, even the choppers? :-) >From comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flight-sim, posted by kolee@chat.carleton.ca (Ka On Lee) (with permission): ---- 1) You need to have USNF installed into your harddisk. The file "6.LIB" must present in the harddisk. You can't hex edit the file on the CD-ROM. (Check for the meaning of ROM if you don't know why. :-) 2) Creat a mission using the Pro mission builder include a legal plane you can fly e.g. a F-104. You can set the arm screen on but don't set the select plane screen. Save the mission to a name e.g. test.m . 3) Use a text editor to open "test.m". Find the section which contain "@PLAYER@". Change the line in the beginning of that section from F104.PT to any plane you want e.g. AV8.PT, F15.PT etc. 4) If you use AV8.PT or YAK141.PT, you don't need to do any hex edit. Just load USNF, use [Play Single Mission] to play test.m. You should found yourself in the new plane. 5) If you use something like F15.PT or MIG29.PT which USNF does not have the HUD graphic, you need to hex edit 6.LIB to make USNF think you have the necessary HUD graphic. To do this: Use a hex editor to open 6.LIB and search for "YAK141.HUD". It should be in off-set 24BBh. Change it to e.g. "F15.HUD". Remember to put 00h after the end of the string to mark the "end of string" for USNF. Save it. Note: I recommand you don't touch F14.HUD, F22.HUD etc or USNF may drop to DOS when you play the original missions. You can't use debug to do the hex edit because the file 6.LIB is too big too fit in 640K memory. If you screw up the file, just copy it back from the CD-ROM. 6) Now load the mission using [Play Single Mission]. 7) Undo the change if you want to play YAK141 again. If you put a non-carrier compatible aircraft e.g. F-15 or A-10 on the deck of a carrier, they will crash. I just put them in the air or on a runway. | _ | Ka On Lee |_(0)_| ------==<[\-(.)-/]>==------ kolee@chat.carleton.ca ^ \#/o o\#/ ^ al555@freenet.carleton.ca ---- [Or use the "No Crash" cheat.
