But as always we will have to wait and see... ======================[Start included article]====================== Hi Guys, I have been mailed by a reader of this forum and asked to give some firm technical details about TFX:EF2000. Well here goes!: EF2000 is the first heavyweight flight simulation from DID, and the flagship of a new range of products. The game includes the following features: * The most accurate flight model ever to appear in a flight simulator for the home. It is a derivative of the flight model technology that DID has developed from it's military simulators. * Realistic sound and communications, based on RAF procedures. * Accurate mid-air refuelling procedures, with multiple plane hook-ups. * Cloud modelling with realistic texture maps. * Fully texture mapped landscapes with many terrain types including mountains, glaciers and fjords, in an environment covering 4 million square kilometres. * Day, night, and twilight missions with Night Vision available. * Full player control of three intelligent wingmen. * A windowing interface that lets you get straight to the action. * Both super VGA and standard VGA modes. SVGA looks close to military quality simulators, which is why the RAF, Army and Navy are so interested. * EF2000 features an eight player network, which includes two game type: King of the Skies, which is like Doom in the air; and Network Simulator, which allows several players to execute complex mission types. * Proper terrain-masking with radar, so you can employ stealth and low-level flying to spoof missiles. * Realistic radar signatures. In addition, flying with your radar on all the time will make you much more visible to enemies. * Each of the weapons systems in the game is accurately modelled (even those carried by enemy planes). Altitude, aspect angle and aircraft speed all influence the Probability of Kill factor. All weapons can also be seen on the exteriors of the aircraft. The laser guided bombing sight is a derivative of work that the company has done on a simulator for the real weapon system used by the RAF. * The game features a virtual cockpit where each individual dial and display works. This is the most accurate simulation of the way that pilots actually padlock'targets. * The plane features a comprehensive suit of accurately modelled avionics systems which can be controlled from the three MFD displays. These were developed with the help of British Aerospace and the RAF: - 3D radar system. - SEA EAGLE targeting radar. - JTIDS display (using data aquired by AWACS and JSTARS). - TIALD laser designator. - DASS (defensive air subsystem) threat warning. - FLIR (forward looking IR). - Terrain following pilot aid - Auto pilot. - Fuel, stores and engine management. - ILS landing system with CFPD. * The SMART PILOT plane AI makes all the planes in the world behave as they would in the real world. They taxi, take off, land and fight! They are also very worthy oponents in close quarter combat. Computer controlled pilots continually assess their own situation, and react with constantly changing manouvres. * A very sophisticated campaign system will generate not only player missions but a whole theatre of war. Typical campaigns can have thousands of planes in the air at one time - each flight having its own mission objective. Strike packages comprising different plane types are assembled by the AI acording to the type of target to be destroyed. Every plane has its own take-off and landing times. * Within the game environment is a very sophisticated comunications system which allows the SMART PILOTS to communicate with each other. When you are contacted the computer will use all the correct flight terminology and you will hear the speech come through your speakers! * Compatibility with VR headsets, including the VFX-1 (to be seen at COMDEX) and Virtual IO i-glasses. * The game features a manual of near gargantuan proportions which covers not only the game but every plane, ship, tank and weapon in the game (there are 29 different planes). This is probably the most comprehensive document on the EuroFighter available to the public, and features a foreword by the plane's marketing director, Group Captain Ned Frith. This is not a complete list of all the game features but hopefully it should wet your appetites. We look forward to reading your replies.
