Customers who come to Doom Evenings on Friday will be able to play these games at a special concessionary rate on the cafe's FujitsuICL Pentium multimedia workstations with 15 inch monitors. Gavin Sheppard, one of the founders of Cafe Internet, explains "Most Doom players play at home and only have one PC available, so they are limited to one player Doom. There is limited rivalry and no comeradeship. At Cafe Internet we have creatd Doom 'ladders', rather like a squash ladder at a local sports club, where members can combat individually, in pairs or in larger teams. You can challenge total strangers for a place on the ladder (which will be published on the Internet) or just come along with friends for an enjoyable afternoon or evening out. Because the Doom Room is on the Internet, players can fight against people all over the world." Afternoon sessions are available to players of all ages. Sessions after 7.00 pm are restricted to those over 18 years of age because the cafe has a wine and bottled beer licence. Hot and cold foods are available throughout. Costs for playing these games will be £2.50 per 1/2 hour session, or 10 sessions can be purchased for £22.50.
