Annoyed with your modem speed while surfing the 'Net? Love head-to-head "deathmatches" and gaming via Kali, Kahn, Ten or modem/modem but pining for lower ping times? THIS IS FOR YOU! A "surf'n'splat" arena will be appearing soon in downtown Toronto. Greater-Torontonians will soon enjoy truly state-of-the art systems, with lightning fast (full T1) connectivity to the Internet. Where system to system network gaming is your preference - you'll be drawing your weapons at speeds up to 100Mbits (Ethernet). We are striving for a no-lag-time policy through any connection you choose. Your choice of only the latest and greatest games will be offered. For those who wish to surf-in-peace, only the newest versions of Netscape will be at your disposal. All environments hosted on Windows '95 only. For people who wish to use the systems for high-speed Internet research or document-drafting purposes, may also have the latest version of Word or WordPerfect at their disposal (depending on popular demand, as noted in any feedback emailed to us). We will also be providing networked access to a full colour 11"x17"-capable laser printer and CD ROM cutter for those times you want to haul back those rare nuggets and jewels you've mined while site-drilling on the 'Net. We know the difference between playing against the unseen opponent, at home, over the 'Net - and laughing your guts out while you *watch* them fumble for the appropriate weapon to blast you, as you calmly RPG/BFG or Nuke them to death - we know the difference because we've spent the odd hour/day or two "testing" the network's limits. Within these limits we've played (and offer) such games as Red Alert ('95); C&C: Tiberium Dawn; Master of Orion II; Civilization 2 (NET); Warcraft II (v3.0); D-Nukem 3-D; Quake (+Dark Hour and add-ons); Diablo; Mech Warrior II (Mercs, Netmech, GBL etc...); Descent I/II and Lord of the Realms II. You want "state-of-the-art", how's this sound? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pentium Pro 200Mhz (with MMX) and built-in SCSI (no IDE), 32MB DRAM (12ms), 2GB Barracuda UW (7ms), 17" Viewsonic (.25), Matrox Millenium (PCI 4MB WRAM), SB AWE 32, 102 keyboards (non-ergonomic or MS-keyed), 10x SCSI CDROMs (soon to be DVD CDROMs), Logitech 2-button ergo-mouse, MS Sidewinder stick, 100Base-T Ethernet networked, with full T1 Internet access. Our arena will consist of 14 stations: Internet-ready and Ethernet-networked. Reservations for your seat (non-smoking, Windows '95 seats only please) will be made available through our website at http://www.surfen.net, through advanced payment on our secure server. Any information collected from you will not be resold or transferred, we really need your feedback and suggestions to help us shape this idea. Please keep in mind, this *is* "NoKTuRNaL" Mayhem: our hours of operation will be FROM 11pm to 6am for the night owls out there. We are considering full 24-hour weekend operation from 11pm Friday to 6am Monday. You will know when the arena hours change by simply checking the available schedule on Surfen's site. Of course, we reserve the right to change the schedule to suit our business demands on that room - we will be using it as a classroom and data entry site as well. Keep this in mind, you may wish to give an instructional seminar or class, yourself - yes, we will rent it out on a daily basis. What do we want? Well, all reservations must be made by credit card and signed at the door. Your photo-ID (of some sort: License, Student Card, TTC etc...) must be shown at the door, with all of the particulars (Name, Address etc...) kept on file.
