2. How to run these demo's
--------------------------

First of all, be sure you have the newest version of the Darken2.wad file
(1.1), otherwise the demo's wont playback correctly. And, you will need
Boom since these demo's are recorded with that program.

Then, follow these steps to playback the demos:

- Unzip the d2uvlmps.zip file into the same directory where the Boom.exe
  and Darken2.wad files are located.

- Together with the demo's and this text file there is a d2uvlmps.bat file
  unzipped, start this bat file.

- When everything goes normal, you should be able to play all the demo's
by entering the right number or letter. For example, if you want to see
the speed demo of level 7, enter the letter "E".

When you refuse to place the Boom.exe file and the Darken2.wad file in
the same directory you can run the demo's with these parameters:

Boom -file (the location of the Darken2.wad file on your computer) - playdemo
(the location of the demo you want to play)

3. Player descriptions

Here are some brief descriptions of all the players that participated in
this project:

-----

Name : Doug Merrill
Nickname : Opulent
E-mail adress : opulent@goodnet.com
Homepage : http://www.goodnet.com/~opulent/doom2.htm

Other demos : This is my first collection.
Pwads designed : some very average sp levels years ago; the deathmatch ones are
                          still good.
Favourite player : What a tough question.
                          Easy to say Adam Hegyi, for almost a year now he has been the best                           Doom player in the world. No one is FPS gaming has his control;
Fatality, Kuin, Kane, Sedlic, ...no one. However, I will go with
Yonatan Donner; he was one of the prime Doom and Quake demo
masters - linking the different Doom eras. I always marvelled at
his demos, and now I think I am approaching the abilities that he
had when he was just a keyboarder. =)
Reason for participating: Darkening2 is one of the 3 best megawads
(along with Hell Revealed and Requiem).

5. Comments about demo's
------------------------

Here are some comments about each demo by the player who made it:

Level 1 Max
-----------

Very easy level to finish and very fun. I think it's
about the best designed level from the whole set. The
beginning is very spectacular with that big building
in front of your nose. It wasn't easy to get
this time, but i never got bored playing it over and
over again so that's good. Otherwise, i would've quitted
a long time ago. I'm very happy with this time.

Level 1 Speed
-------------

Again, very easy to finish and very fun. Took
me a little while to find the fastest route.
At least, i think it's the fastest route.
Picking up the armor loses a little seconds but
makes it much easier. And, you know me, i always
go the easy way :-)

Level 2 Max
-----------

Ergh!
When making demos, I swear, your gun misses more, shotgun guys do like 25%
damage, spectres and demons take 3-4 hits to die, and invisible walls block
you from dodging that GOD DAMN FIREBALL! #$&@!
This wad is driving me insane!

Level 3 Max
-----------

Not too keen on the secrets in this one, pretty much useless, but since these are 100\100 demos i had to get them. I liked the chainsaw here, it got really usefull in a couple of spots.

Level 4 Max
-----------

This map was a wee bit annoying, getting perfect rocket hits on all three revenants is very
important if you wanted to get a good time, and that's pretty much depending on luck =( Apart from that, very fun to play, very intense.

Level 5 Max
-----------

Very plain max run. I would need luck, skip the lostsouls, and to be
more daring(I don't take much damage until I forget what I am doing and
go for the blue key before killing the archvile) to break 7:00. I guess
a better use of plasma and rockets could do well.
But you'll have to wait for a Scandanavian run for that. =)

Level 6 Max
-----------

Good map with nice design and clever monster
placement. The first arch-vile is a pain in
the ass you know. Almost half the times i tried
i got killed there. That's why i'm pretty happy
with this time. Could be improved but the map
just a little too hard to play over and over
again.

Level 7 Max
-----------

I think it might be faster to:
 1) to the rl on the mancubi
 2) leave the start area for later.
 3) not kill any monsters and RUN for the exit.
Pain Elementals are a lot harder in BOOM.

Level 7 Speed
-------------

My first successful try was 2:35.
I knew that a run without general mistakes(ie. making all the jumps the
first time) would be under 2:00. so that was my goal.
took a lot of tries to make it.

Level 8 Max
-----------

Very hard level! This is the first time i finished it.
Didn't have the courage to try to improve it. Hey, it
took me 3 days to finish it once, dude. I mean, come
on! :-)

Level 9 Max
-----------

Very hard again. And, again this is the first time
i finished it. I think it's a bit decent. The start
is much faster than the end because i got used to it by
having to play it over and over again and then die.
It went "@&@#&**%#" around hundred times in my living
room. :-)

Level 10 Max
------------

Brad's 7:27 is much better; watch it.

(Wim: "Hey Doug, stop whining and give me some comments
man." After Doug points his BFG to Wim: "Okay, okay,
i'll put this in the text file but dont kill me please.")
:-)

Level 11 Max
------------

Whew, finally. Quite a big map here. You may notice that my keyboard went
into bork-mode a few times... you'll notice my guns keep switching (I have
to press the weapon# again to make it stop) and sometimes I can't stop
moving in a certain direction. That's what you get for el-cheapo keyboards
I guess.
Anyways, I got lost once heh heh. The rest of the time I was taking it slow,
trying not to die. That Cyberdemon battle went very well, considering that
was the first time I actually lived to see that part of the level ;)
Now go watch it!

(Wim: "See Doug, this is much better than your childish
blabling". Doug takes his BFG out of his pocket again:
"Oh, you're gonna play it like this again ... ... ..."
With a very high and silent voice: "ok.") :-)

Level 12 Max
------------

Oh man. This was my third serious attempt.
I was NOT going to rush it at all -- there is just too much that can go
wrong. The Soulsphere secret can even be trouble. The 4 jumps are
simply the hardest sequence, I think, in any Doom map of noted quality.
Then, after all that, there is the Cyberdemon; and we all know how that
can go wrong. ;)
I kind of wimped out at the end... sorry, Ola.

(Wim: "That's more like it!") :-)
