I love playing reality style.. I can also see why some people must
hate it. It's probably one of the most annoying categories to record
in.

The problem with reality style is that it combines diffuclt elements
from many other categories. A single mistake can ruin a whole run, and
yet you more or less have to clear out large areas with monsters..only
you can't get hit even once! And, in contrast to all other categories,
where some people mean that the measure of skill is coping with
unexpected situations, in reality you can not allow unexpected
situations to occur -- ever -- because then you're dead!! This also
requires perfect knowledge of the map... Not only how many monsters
there are in a room, but how many of each type and *exactly* where
they're placed... Or in the case of waking them up previously, where
they are *likely* to be placed. :-/

Anyway, I can tell you it's frustrating sometimes, but very rewarding
also. Just don't try it if you don't have any patience. ;-)

This here's a sample from a warm-up run for my current project, which
I've been working on recently (that's why I've been rather quiet as of
late), doing a reality run through "Knee-Deep In The Dead" on UV! A
task that has yet to be done, if I'm not mistaken.

This is a good map to practice on. Like in E1 there are several hitscan
monsters (shotgun guys, and chaingunners) that can hit you from great
distances. There are also a lot of bigger monsters, some of which are
best left ignored. :-)

This isn't too hard to do.. I wanted a time below three minutes, which
I can usually get without much problems. In this recording, a few things
slowed me down considerably (like waking up the two cacos on top of the
stairs in the first room.. *sigh*). After you get the blue key, your
best bet is to just leg it to the finish line. I was of course extremely
lucky in the end room, but then again a good player is always lucky,
right? ;-)
